If he is too poor to pay his previous fines, how did he pay the lady so promptly for the rental car? I believe it was 2 separate payments of over $100 bucks each. Most poor people can't come up with kind of cash quickly.

Actually, there were 3 total passengers not including the girl. Cliffy just split it up with the 2 other football players. Splitting the trip costs with 2 other friends and having a 100 bucks in your pocket does not equal having enough money to buy a car you moron. They may be poor, and may not be able to afford a 30k brand new car, but not poor enough to pay out 100-200 bucks on a summer trip you jackwagan.

That's rich coming from the conference that has USC in it.

How in any way shape or form is USC Oregon? Different schools, different teams, different states even. We out West do not share in your collective "Team SEC" concept. Each school and team is their own identity. Whatever USC does is USC's business, not ours. We are Oregon, not any other.

Where were the coaches to make certain these kids' focus remains on their education and athletic ability?

Answer: Our football players were given a summer's week off. Most went back to their homes or enjoyed their little vacation or did whatever they wanted to do. Chip Kelly was not riding in the car with them holding their little hands.

Possibly true.....in our state, driving under suspension is one of those 'fine lines' between a traffic offense and a criminal offense.

Different States have different laws. This traffic infraction was done in Oregon. Sorry to hear LA see's things differently down there. Oregon is not LA.

I take a totally different stance. Cliff should be suspended. However, some of these LSU posters want nothing more than to believe the improprieties are part of our culture. I highly doubt that this is more than an isolated incident. However, we need to show Cliff that you pay for things like this. I see a two game suspension.

Quit getting eff'in defensive....my implication was that every college coach should have had a conversation with their teams regarding the ohio state debacle. If OU coach did not, he missed a teaching opportunity....if he did, then the kid should 'get his mind right'

"So, I rented the car for my own purposes on Friday. Cliff Harris and his licensed friend, who showed me his license, asked to borrow it and paid me the full amount in cash that I paid for the rental."

"All right, I'm going to level with you all. But what's most important now is that you remain calm. There is no reason to panic. Now, it is true that one of the crew members is ill, slightly ill. But the other two pilots, they're just fine. They're at the controls flying the plane, free to pursue a life of religious fulfillment."

My foundation: his poor decision was not one to be focused on OU, but on his generation. If it was not an OU student acting an arse, it would have eventually been another student at another University, somewhere.

You are delusional...

So, you can compare OSU to the SEC, but pointing out that you are in the same conference as USC is absurd?

Ha!

From Matt Hinton of Yahoo Sports:

Um, what?

"There are two lingering questions from there," Hinton writes. "First: What exactly is the woman's job, considering that Oregon sports information director Dave Williford -- while acknowledging to KEZI that he knew a woman had rented the car and wasn't in it when Harris was cited -- seemed to have no idea that the woman in question was an employee of the university? And second: Would the players' payments to the woman absolve them of an improper benefits charge, considering one of the standard responses to an improper benefits charge is to require players to pay up (usually to charity) for the value of the gift? And how does her status with the university affect the potential consequences, considering the direct participation of an athletic department employee in the violation of an NCAA rule opens the door to an allegation of 'failure to monitor,' at least?"

bullshite. Cliff Harris is too poor to even pay off his previous fines that is why his license was suspended. Oregon just passed a new law a few years ago that if you go over 100, you also get your license suspended. Big deal. His already was. And in Oregon they do not issue warrants for petty stuff like traffic infractions. You only do not get your license back until you pay those fines.

Most of the Oregon players are too poor to even own cars. You do not even have a clue what you speak about. Just because tOSU had become like the SEC is not our problem.

I do fault Cliffy for one thing though. What in the world was he doing trying to set speed records in a Altima? He should of just borrowed my Beemer.

Is this where we are supposed to be in awe that you have a Beemer?

She is an employee of the department of business affairs, per KATU (local ABC affiliate) tonight but no one ever believed she was in the AD. Hinton doesn't have the facts and is editorializing.

I wish college athletes nationwide would realize that their talents provide for certain 'benefits', not 'pardons'. Their 'service' permits certain university related indiscretions, not violation of laws.

DucksflyinPAC, the issue you are missing here is that the car Harris was driving he could not have rented himself. Consequently, that makes it an NCAA infraction (an impermissible benefit) whether he paid for it or not. If Oregon takes your approach and decides it's insignificant, the NCAA will likely step in an impose some punishment. As Oregon does not want that to happen, they will probably err on the side of making the punishment tougher. Harris will inevitably miss some playing time. We'll see if it includes LSU or not.

Bison, I am so glad you are not our head coach. For one you would suspend Cliffy for a simple traffic violation. Two, you would of told your team in the locker-room, "hey guys, try hard, but you do not have a chance because I have went on LSU's TD and predicted over 20 times you all will lose anyway."
Stop Kissing arse on here Bison, it is getting old very quick!

A suspension would include LSU since it's the next game. I would be very surprised if CK suspended him for any other.

Although, I think this is a very murky case in that you can't really assign a value to the benefit.
