Yep. Way too many wild expectations around Woodward. As you say, I love the hire and think he will do good things. But, to already be predicting championships is premature IMO.

Ironically the same people saying “I’m a fan of LSU, not the coaches” are the same people worshipping Aranda, Woodward and Wade.

He will go after big time, proven coaches if sitting coaches aren’t doing the job to his standard.

But how many major championships have his teams won?

Just saying, give the guy time to do his thing. The pressure and myth building around him is unsettling.

Why is it ironic that people hold elite coaches and leaders in such high regard?

If they can bring LSU to prominence, they will be kings. The coaches you mentioned are nationally regarded as being among the best in their field. The AD is among the best at his craft.

It’s ironic that this would perturb you.

I'm extremely positive about all three. But do think people are jumping the gun on Woodward just a bit.

What has Woodward done so far that has made him an “elite” leader? Wear a fratty checkered blazer to a building opening?

I’m just saying all you can do is try, right?

You’re damn right people are gonna love an AD who goes out and gets homerun hires. Does it always yield championships? Of course it may not, but I’ll take my chances with that over Allevas “search” process.

Most of that is myth as well.

Now this is irony. I know you’re all in on Ed as the next Dabo and that’s great, but if you really want to feel happy about the future of LSU sports, do some reading on Scott Woodward.

Allevas “search” process was a myth? How so Roger?

From the LSUsports.net bio on Woodward...

"During Woodward's tenure at Texas A&M, every sports program participated in postseason play and the Aggies won nine SEC titles, including men’s basketball, baseball, men’s tennis (twice), soccer, women’s swimming and diving (three times), and men’s outdoor track and field." - emphasis added

"During Woodward’s time leading the Husky athletic programs, UW captured seven national championships and multiple conference titles during his tenure."

It's definitely a hell of a lot better than an AD whose most notorious accomplishment was the Duke lacrosse scandal.

Thanks for posting that info. It seems I’ve struck a nerve with a couple of folks for suggesting Woodward won’t be patting Orgeron on the back for 9 win seasons lmao

What major hardware does he have?

BTW: His strength is fundraising.

I can only speak for myself, but my main concern in losing Aranda is that Orgeron hasn't exactly had the best track record here identifying and hire coaches.

Honest question, other than Greg McMahon and Pete Jenkins is there another coach that he went out and got that has proven to be a good assistant?

Disclaimer: This is a question that I am seeking other opinions on. I am in no way saying that this is a fact.

Great post. I was taking the wait and see approach as well. And with each day I believe more and more.

Far from it, but it's ignorant.

Miles had some fantastic stretches at LSU.

2005-07 and 2010-13 were fun as hell. 2014-16, not so much.

I'm not about to research 10+ years of results for 16 different sports. Feel free to do so and check back in with your results.
