Zac Arnold will be the starting shortstop not Hughes.

I’m 95% sure Arnold is the one who recently had surgery & is out 8-10 weeks

Media day starts at noon, I won't be able to watch the press conference, so hopefully someone on here can start a thread and give updates.

How quickly do you think Hampton breaks into the starting lineup?

I am willing to bet he starts one game the first weekend. If not he will start the first midweek game. He needs at bats more than anyone on the team and that first week CPM usually likes to play as many people as he can.

Cabrera has spent a good amount of time in CF, which tells me that Gio is not totally locked into that position.

There is a whole lot of competition out there. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cabrera in CF, and Dugas/Bianco in RF for a game on opening weekend.

As I'm looking around the SEC to see which freshman are actually on the rosters, compared to the commit lists from the fall, Arkansas seems to have taken a beating.

I know we lost some players to JUCO, like Phillips, Torres, and Wilhite. And then recently had Abendroth transfer out.

Arkansas' class had 18 of the top 200 freshmen in the SEC, and six of the ones listed aren't on their spring roster. Including the number 10 guy (Jason Hodges, son of former NBAer Craig) and Nathan Stevens, their third highest rated recruit.

I agree. The talent is there with Gio but he has a few things to improve on.
I could see Dugas at 2nd over Cade, just based on the fall. Cade will come around, too much talent, but he wasn't quite there in the fall.

I may be able to for the first half

I don't know why the staff is pushing this so hard if at all. Cabrera is a corner outfielder. He will never play CF at the next level. Dugas, Digiacomo, or Hampton make more sense.

Any other outliers besides Arkansas?

I think the most exciting thing this year will be seeing what Eddie Smith can bring to the table. No offense to Ochinko... but we actually have a true hitting coach this year. Someone with experience in coaching and developing hitters

I'm sure you already know it but just in case, the reason he transferred out was because Mainieri had suspended him from the team for one year.

Kentucky seems to have lost a few. Florida and Tennessee haven't updated their rosters yet. Ole Miss lost 3 guys, Mississippi State lost a top 25 guy to Chipola.

ETA: Arkansas' roster that was updated either yesterday or today still has 43 guys on it. I don't know how teams keep doing that.

Yeah, it was strange when he didn't throw in the fall. Our pitching recruiting class really got hammered, but we got so many in last year that it doesn't really even matter.

The fact that some of you call yourselves Tiger "fans", then continue to shite on this kid is kinda sickening, to be honest

Why is that during football season, it ok to say that certain player should not be playing as much as they are, but come baseball season if you point out a player that is not up to snuff you are a bad fan? Hughes is not good and should not be starting! That is a fact. Stop ridiculing people that are openly saying it.

Gio did have some small issues manning CF last year. That's something that Mainieri has shown he won't allow. I agree with you that Hampton is better suited there, with Cabrera in CF, but Hampton wasn't practicing. Perhaps Cabrera has just shown an ability to be more consist Fielding in CF than the others, and he's an emergency option if needed. If Gio isn't performing I would love to see Hampton take it.

I don't really have a problem with people saying this player or that player shouldn't be starting. I don't like when people beat dead horses over and over again. I don't think any fans want to see Hughes starting, but we've been hearing people grip about it for too long. Mainieri doesn't play certain people out of spite against fans. He has his reasons for playing Hughes. He values a solid defense up the middle. It is what it is.

Bianco at DH ? The guy who hit .176 ? Between him and Hughes that’s four to six outs a game.

He’s going to need to make more contact this season.

He struck out way too much last year for a guy with his speed

The guy who hit like 6 home runs in the fall.
