Defense, are we still talking Defense. I remember when Defense wins Championships, good times.....

I wanted 50 or more against atm. Those 2 points made my day. 50-7.
THIS. It was an especially satisfying 2 points

Are we not counting points off turnovers?
Aranda’s defenses always seemed solid and good enough to win. That said, they didn’t generate a ton of turnovers, and for much of his time here didn’t get as much pressure on the QB as they maybe should have given LSU’s talent at DB.
I wouldn’t object to a more aggressive defensive philosophy as long as we keep winning.
This year’s defense did get better at pressuring the QB as the season went along.
I seem to recall Coach O saying he wanted the defense to be more aggressive getting after the QB, and mentioned using more stunts and a few other tweaks about halfway through the season, maybe a little after the halfway point. The defense seemed to be more disruptive from that point on.
I’m not sure how much of that was because of strategic changes and how much was players getting healthier late in the year.
To be clear, I’m not complaining or saying I was disappointed with LSU’s defenses under Aranda, with the exception of the 2nd half of the Florida and A&M games from 2018. Those were outliers though.

Well.... you could say that gave Joe Burrow more opportunities to pad his stats since the defense didn't do the scoring for him..

It will be that way again in due time. Some bright, innovative young defensive mind will figure out how to shut down or at least slow down these modern offenses. You’ll see lots of schools following suit just as we’ve seen with offenses over the past decade or so.
Offenses will eventually adjust and figure out how to move the ball and score on those innovative new defenses, and the cycle will continue.
If I was a HC or DC, I’d probably try to recruit bigger DBs or put my fastest, strongest and most athletic guys in the 210-220 pound range on the outside WRs and try to jam them at the line while sending enough pressure to force the QB to get rid of the ball fast or be sacked, and hope they can disrupt the routes enough to force bad throws and get to the QB. Put the nickel and safeties in zone and hope to jump the inside routes.
Obviously, you’d have to have some traditional corners on the roster for when you go up against teams that don’t spread you out as much and keep enough blockers in to potentially hold up long enough for the receivers to get past the larger DBs.
It might not work, but I’d at least try it if I had to defend against offenses like LSU and Alabama. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anyone try it with the kind of personnel I envision.
And if that wouldn’t work, someone will eventually figure out something that will.

quote:that's why stats are often misleading. If a team got no defensive TDs, but had many INTs and fumble recoveries deep inside the opponent's territory, that would be damn good, even without an actual defensive TD.
Are we not counting points off turnovers?
So many stats needs more context - like this one.

they peaked at the right time. This was a good defense.

I don't think even they were ever a factor, were they? Would you count Alabama - did that game hinge on points off turnovers?
The Queen interception wasn't relevant?
Not sure what game you were watching?

Also, I don’t think we ran a single fake punt or field goal right?
