It’s been said a lot I know, but I still keep thinking about how sensational he was. True freshman, second college game, hostile environment against an exceptional passing attack. Texas opted to stop going at him, and they made that decision early too - choosing instead to attack a senior all-American/first rounder. The only two times they went his way, he made two great plays to break up the pass - verse a veteran 6’6 top 3 round pick no less.

He’s just such a natural. I don’t think it’s hyperbolic to say he has a chance to be the best DB that has ever played at LSU and considering our history and some of the players we’ve had - for that to even be a rational thought with a kid after two games shows how truly special he is.

I remember when 247 ranked Alfano (guy leaving Bama already) above Stingley.

There are some guys you just look at on the field and you know they're more athletic than anybody else on the field.

Patrick Peterson was the model of that.

Stingley looks that way.

Not intending to take anything away from Stingley,

BUT HONEY BADGER:
Made tackles behind the line of scrimmage
Deflected passes that were intercepted
Intercepted balls
Caused fumbles
Recovered fumbles
Score touchdowns
WAS A HEISMAN FINALIST
.... Microphone drop

Nope. Not at all. Honey Badger had a preternatural ability to find the football, rip it away or bat it away, and then get to it. I’ve never seen anyone with that ability. In 50 years of watching college and pro ball there has NEVER been anyone with that peculiar ability.

The Badger made a dozen disruptive plays that not only resulted in turnovers, but created those turnovers out of whole cloth. You can’t find another guy who had one fourth those kind of plays in his entire career.

Stingley looks great, but the model for Stingley is the superb Patrick Peterson, a CB I think was even more valuable than Mathieu but in a very different way.

Yep, Honey Badger made plays all over the field and could knock your block off.

Rewatch TM7 highlight tape on YouTube and you will be quickly reminded how he was a once in a life time type player

His grandmother is really ill and is on life support. I’m guessing he just wants to be closer to home.

Different positions, but Patrick Peterson like for sure and maybe a bit better. Honey Badger was the most exciting player in all my years of watching LSU without doubt. That does back to 1964 my first game.

He is so disruptive with his hands, very athletic and always aware of where the ball is going. Very Impressed with his young man.
