Well, my point is take out Mills and it hits Quinn in stride. He completes it and we're having a totally different discussion. But back shoulder would have been more effective, I agree.

ETA I was mainly responding to someone who said it was underthrown.

So the QB is supposed to know ahead of time what the DB's "catch radius" is and figure that into the equation before he lets the pass go? Makes sense.
:smh:

Would you feel better if I took the phrase "catch radius" out of the statement and just said that it's ill-advised to throw a ball where the DB can catch it before the WR can?

So if Mills didn't lose track of the ball, it wouldn't have been an easy interception?

Agree.

Except that Mills was there.

It's kind of like a slant pass that would have hit a WR in stride, except there's LB between the QB and WR. On this play, Mills was between Harris and Quinn on the trajectory of that pass. Unfortunately for him, he lost track of the ball and didn't make the interception. Fortunately for him, he still broke up the completion.

If it would have been thrown over Quinn's outside shoulder, Mills would have had a difficult time making any play on the ball. Harris could have dropped the ball in a bucket in the corner of the end zone, but the ball was under thrown for that kind of a completion on that route.

I don't know. I'm reminded of the throw Flynn made to Byrd against AU in '07. At any point the DB could have turned around and knocked the ball down or intercepted. Did Flynn look at the coverage and know that the DB was going to be in chase mode the entire time and assumed he wouldn't turn around? Is that the case with Harris on this throw?

And looking at the replay again, Mills did turn around, just the wrong way.

Very very similar plays. As I recall, Byrd had a small step (or push) on Powers. I'd say that Flynn's pass was a tad under thrown as well. I'd bet that Flynn would say the same.

But you know what, comme ci, comme ça. It's a Spring Game. Both QBs looked better. I'm looking forward to the QB play this fall.

Justin McMillan was on point as well...I don't think we should sleep on him.

Just think of the apocalyptic events that would have to happen for him to get a start.

By August first, fans will be calling for McMillian to start based strictly on 5 plays in a spring game.

I can see the threads now after the first 3 and out...

"I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY WE CANT JUST GIVE MCMILLIAN A SHOT! IT CANT GET ANY WORSE!!!"

BH should be the QB. AJ benefited from 2 plays that WRs were wide open

AJ made a pretty good first throw, but that was the only throw that I saw him make that he couldn't have made last year. I didn't see just a ton of improvement like some people are saying. If you use their performances against the 1st string D (which I would say is more accurate), I can easily see a repeat of last year.

Agree, improvement is there, but I think the Rant is putting way too much stock in one scrimmage that was misleading based on the matchup.

He said he wants to redshirt and take the time to learn the offense and hit the weight room this year. He has no intentions on playing this year.

If Miles had control of the QB situation, Harris should have red shirted last season.
