Excessive penalties. Lack of discipline is a staple of Kelly’s teams at LSU – reflective of poor coaching, which starts at the top. Thus far this season, out of 134 FBS teams, LSU ranks #97 in Penalties per Game- averaging 7.3 penalties.

Every year Kelly claims this will be cleaned up, but it continues to be a recurring problem. He should practice what he preaches. As per the norm:

LSU Penalties per Game ranking:
- 2025, #97
- 2024, #86
- 2023, #94
- 2022, #71

Lack of preparation is a BK special too alongside slow starts. Sign of a badly coached team.

His teams always excel in not being physical and being unprepared.

He was a shitty hire. All he brings is arrogance and condescension. He won’t win anything significant here. Doesn’t matter how much money is thrown at the roster

It could be that the SEC refs throw more penalty flags. Even though LSU is ranked #97 right now, they are middle of the pack for the SEC at #9. For reference, here are the rankings for those that don't want to look at the chart.

out of 136 teams:

#15 - Mizzou (4.0)
#20 - UGA (4.3)
#53 - Kentucky (5.5)
#55 - OU (5.7)
#65 - Bama (6.0)
#89 - Florida (7.0)
#89 - Arky (7.0)
#89 - Tenn (7.0)
#97 - LSU (7.3)
#108 - Vandy (7.8)
#111 - Ole Miss (7.8)
#122 - Texas (8.5)
#125 - USCe (8.8)
#126 - AU (8.8)
#131 - Moo St. (9.3)
#134 - aTm (9.5)

He is the exact opposite of everything that sold me on the hire. Figured the team would always be disciplined and prepared and focused.

The dance video was the day I knew it was over. I kinda knew when he was hired but chose to give it time. Then the little fist slam was icing on the cake

And the coach you all want to replace him, Kiffin, ranks worse than Kelly, every season since Kelly arrived in Baton Rouge.

I've got bad news for you with Urban Meyer's penalty trend at the end of his career.

2018-19: #124 with 8.3 penalties per game
2017-18: #103 with 6.9 penalties per game
2016-17: #73 with 6.3 penalties per game
2015-16: #54 with 5.8 penalties per game

I'm not railing on Urban Meyer, either.

The thread was about penalties, which aren't always a good indicator of a team being bad.

It could also just be a sign of an overaggressive defense.

2023 65th
2022 126th
2021 99th
2020 62nd
2019 120th

LSU was 78th in penalties in 2019, but they were 12th in penalties in 2021. One was a 15-0 national champ season, the other was the first losing season since the 90s and got the head coach fired. Which do you think is which?

In 2020 Bama was 62nd in penalties and finished undefeated winning a championship. LSU was 71st in penalties and finished 5-5.

Spoiler alert, amount of penalties per game doesn't mean shite if you are just better than the other team.
