You may not like Jimbo but his body of work should be respected.
I'm actually a big Jimbo fan. I guess I'm being a little vindictive from stuff I heard in the off season about Jimbo being overrated and last year being Coach O's first year with the team. I agree with you about it not being chalk though.
State is going to be a tough game the week after UGA. That's a damn good team IMO.

Also do you thinknwas average bad or good? Because he won a lot of games even at the end.
I think he was a great coach who was myopic to the offense side of the ball and it had caught up to him.
At least Coach O recognizes the problem and is working to correct it. He got off to a stuttering start with the Canada hire but at least had the vision to correct it. He wasn't to stubborn or pridefull to do something about it. Obviously it is still a work in progress.

you don't seem to care about bowl games for some reason.
It's not that I don't care about the bowl game, it's just that a 10 win regular season seems to have been the benchmark before, so it really should be now as well. If LSU is 10-2 against this schedule, I believe they will have some claim to the CFP over a 1 or 2 loss conference champion from a lesser conference. Would it actually happen? Probably not, but it would certainly get us to a NY6 bowl.
So, let's say we lose a NY6 bowl in a close game to go 10-3 in a close game. To me that's a better season than going 9-3 in the regular season and winning some 2nd rate bowl game over a mediocre team and then having the same 10-3 record.

He was great at one point, and I like Miles a lot, was a huge defender.
But if you’re Defense is run by a DC with a fair amount of autonomy, and your offense sucks, how are you a great coach if you are only winning 10 games a year?

You don’t get points for trying. I think Hiring Canada and hating the offense and fighting against it and fighting with the OC shows lack of vision.
O talks about not likening the misdirection and trick I was of Canada’s offense. What did he think he was getting?
And now we have a pro style transition to a spread style with a Spread QB. And we’re winning because the defense is giving g us insane field position, but our offense is far from fixed or even goods
I think o knows where he wants the offense to be, but I dont Think he knows how to get there.

I agree that a 10 win regular season makes for a pretty good season in any year. But it is not and has not been some automatic thing for LSU for a while now. If we are going by regular season only, then we didn't hit that mark in MIles last 3 full seasons at LSU and wouldn't have in 2015 even with the extra game. Also 2016 wasn't looking good for him to hit it either with a 2-2 start to the season. But we did have a run from 2005 to 2012 where you could say it was the norm. Also remember that Saban only hit that mark one time out of the 5 years he was here.
So yes 9 regular season wins last season didn't get us back to the 10 regular season wins a year mark that had been pretty regular from 2008 to 2012 and it seems ya'll expected that whoever came in was going to get us back to that mark their first season here. Coach O didn't get us to that benchmark his first year and thus some of fans think the coach should have been fired and that the vitriolic ridicule of him was and is warranted. I just don't feel that way nor do a lot of other fans. But OK. That's the past. How about we see how this season plays out before ya'll restart with the excessive hate and ridicule. If this season turns to shite then many more fans, probably most fans, will be calling for his head.

This hasn't been happening though. Conversely, y'all really should wait for the season to play out before any more stupid call out threads are made. Only one side isnt waiting for the season to end, and it isn't the negas.

I'm not sure why you keep mixing last season and this season into one conversation. I have never said that Orgeron should have been fired after last year. In fact, I defended him when people said he should be on the hot seat.

That's exactly my point, he was fired for having those records. He also had difficult schedules and Wisconsin finished that season ranked high and lost to Auburn on the road.

from 2005 to 2012 the team had at least 10 regular season wins 6 out of the 9 years and made it to the national championship game twice., winning one of them. That takes great coaching in my book. You might have your standards unrealistically high if you expect more.
It's doesn't have to be the head coaches job to run the offense or the defense though he is responsible for both. The HC job involves a lot more than running one side of the ball as a defacto coordinator. He is like a CEO overseeing the whole operation. Like our current head coach, CEO.
quote:
O talks about not likening the misdirection and trick I was of Canada’s offense.
He said he doesn't like the jet sweep and misdirection? I think he just didn't like the o line in motion before the snap of the ball. Flipping the right side to the left and the left side to the right, like we were doing before the troy game. But maybe you are right, I just never heard him say he didn't like misdirection which would be a weird thing to say. Even coach E's offense has some misdirection in it, though it isn't the primary component.

not really following you on that one. Pro style offense do have a lot of spread elements in them these days and Joe Burrow isn't just a pro style or just a spread style QB. His accuracy hasn't been great so far, but we will see if he can improve that. I think he will.
quote:
I think o knows where he wants the offense to be, but I dont Think he knows how to get there.
that's like your opinion. Again time will tell.

it was just fans coming to this board and reading all this crap day after day pissed some of them off. Like the team says "frick them right in the arse" But you are right, we need to wait and see how it plays out. It could still all turn to crap.
so much for the myth that players and recruits don't read this and aren't influenced by it. No wonder we lost Surtain and Akers. They were probably thinking, who the frick would want to play in front these people, frick them.

How in the world was Miles ever able to get a top ten class if that were the case? He was constantly shite on on this board.

Another example of the double standard for both coaches.
Maybe if people had eased up on Miles we would've had a couple more #1 classes. Thanks Miles haters.

I'm in no way saying the negativity is even right, but Miles got more than his share of hate and I was one of the people putting it on the board. I thought he was a underachieved nearly every year.
Posted on 9/20/18 at 5:00 pm to TigerLunatik
Well yeah he underachieved because people were bashing him on the boards. How could he get the recruits we needed in here with that atmosphere?
I'm interested in this angle now. What would we put the handicap on the recruiting rankings drop due to fan bashing on TD? Maybe the bashing counts for 5 spots? So that puts O's last class in the top 10.
Let's look at Miles last classes.
2016 - 3
2015 - 10
2014 - 2
2013 - 6
2012 - 14
2011 - 7
2010 - 7
2009 - 1
2008 - 11
2007 - 4
2006 - 8
2005 - 10
A five point bump gives us what, 6 additional top 5 classes? And makes those already excellent classes probably historically great. We would've had a class no lower than 9th. Incredible.
What could've been. All due to people complaining on the boards.

i couldn't imagine what would be going on right now if we were 1-2.
Did you even read the board after a win against SELU?
Start with this 12 page thread that got 294 upvotes.
Many of you have accepted mediocrity
Here's some examples for you
Our offense is a disaster. Ed Orgeron is more allergic to good offense than Les Miles.
Most realize there is noting we can do about it and we love the Tigers too much to simply not go or not watch.
We really need a new board, new TAF leadership, fire king, fire alleva and torch the football ops building at this point. the Poison as spread that bad.
I’d say most are conditioned to ride that wave of mediocrity all the way to their casket
Most everyone knew O wasn't a good head coach
Its a very sad state of affairs.
Not only have they accepted (mediocrity), they are incredulous that the rest of us haven’t.
this is just the first 2 pages. But DELUSIONALBOX wants people to wait and see. LOL.

Clearly the good will and compliments of Tigerdropping propellied that 2016 class.
Posted on 9/20/18 at 5:25 pm to Lester Earl
The overreaction was ridiclous after Southeastern. It would be bad now if it were 1-2 as well. I can only tell you that I would have been saying the same thing then. That is saying "I told ya so" this early leaves yourself open to the other side coming back at you 10 fold if the season turns around the other way.

Thats where I am at. On the other hand, its funny to see people that hated on everything all offseason want to call every game a win this year now. shite, i don't even believe that.
As far as calling people out, for me its not to say I told you so. Just that they legitimately need to reflect on their approach to criticism.
I was reading old bookmarks today, and it's amazing how many positive threads this offseason were quickly twisted to hateful shite. Nothing constructive. Just the same people throwing out the same tired, baseless points. Now they want to pretend to be victims because people are calling them stupid.
