OLine Coach Davis will not accept anymore complacency from LSU’s Oline he saw last summer

The Advocate reported that even though LSU consistently used the same Oline at the end of spring practice, competition will stretch into preseason camp, when newcomers and injured players returning will enter the mix.
Freshman Campbell who arrived early is in the mix to start, along with transfers Shorts and Frazier. The most wide open position is at center. And Bradford, who didn’t participate this spring for undisclosed reasons, who has been described by Kelly as a starter is a wild card that can play guard or tackle.
TTT - One point Coach Davis seems to have made very clear from the article, is that LSU’s Oline players will be pushed harder in fall practice, noting Davis will not accept what he saw last summer.

Then what did he do about while it was happening in the spring?

That's weird. What was so wrong during the spring? It seemed like things have been going well.

Will be easier to push LSU’s Oline players harder when more players participate in fall. Then if anyone doesn’t like the arse chewing, he can go to the sideline.

Charles Turner was the only guy he had at center maybe
Seemed like he had hoped a few more guys would participate more than they did. Probably guys like Bradford, Martinez and Dellinger (who I know was very hurt though).
We had pretty slim pickings this spring on the OL overall with a handful of guys not going or able to give a full go. The 2nd team OL had quite a few walk ons on it and the 3rd team was almost all walk ons.

Maybe he's saying what was good enough in the spring, will not be good enough in the fall and everyone needs to continue to elevate their game.

Not saying the OP was trying flame or was just simply misquoting the article. But the Title, and was Davis supposedly actually said in the article are not the same.

1) Our DLine is one of the better ones in the country.
2) Defense has an easier job while the offense is still learning the playbook.
3) Every 3rd drive was from Daniels who isn't a real passing threat.

He accepted it.

The article reported that Coach Davis will not accept anymore complacency which it noted he saw in spring. The implication was very clear, LSU’s oline coach will be harder on players in fall practice, he will not accept the complacency he saw in spring.

I like the sound of that for an unmentioned reason. I believe the coaches think this team coukd be really good with a good OL performance and they think they have the players to do it if they commit to the hardwork.

Good point. I hate these hype and p.r. posts about "someone is going to get tough" or "someone is going to not tolerate X." Why did you tolerate it then? Why didn't you do something about it then?

The more competition on the OL in fall camp, the better it will be for LSU in the fall. As I believe that LSU's offensive line will be significantly improved in the fall and I also believe it will be the deepest LSU offensive line in over ten years.

These new coaches probably were waiting to evaluate LSU players on film before doing something about what needed correcting. Which players were slow to react on film or taking plays off at times. A lot can be learned by watching film that’s missed on the practice field. I’m excited that LSU has the coaches who speak out more and are more Saban like.

Circumstance matters. My best guess is that it was tolerated in the spring for 3 reasons:
1) the guys were learning a new offense. It’s hard to expect the best reps when you know your guys’ heads are spinning a bit from trying to learn.
2) lots of new faces. There were a bunch of new guys whether it be freshman or transfers and the coach was probably trying to get a read on who can do what.
3) numbers were thin. It’s hard to drive your guys hard when you know there isn’t anyone who can replace them if they go down. And you can’t exactly bench a guy for a weak effort if there isn’t anyone to come in for them.
In the fall, the numbers should be better, the playbook shouldn’t be as new, and the coach should have a better feel for where everyone is at developmentally.
The circumstances are why it wasn’t as strict then but will be more strict going forward.

He knows that the D line is coming to play and his guys need to be ready. Public challenge to them for motivation.

Because Einstein he didn't have tge numbers.
Only had so many via injury or whatever the case was.

How about a link then. A link to the article would clear it all up.
