lived in north stadium fall of '64 and spring of '65. All good memories. Great group of guys. Still in touch with many of them. Most of the guys were from small town La. with not enough money to live anywhere else. It was the cheapest place on campus. Cold as hell in the winter, hot and humid in the summer. Would not trade the experience for anything. Boo-Ray games would start on Friday nite and go into Sunday afternoon. We kept beer in our room till Dean Cheatwood paid a visit and threatened the whole floor with expulsion. In those days the tigers walked from the dressing room to the practice fields across Nicholson. They would dress and then all congregate outside till the coaches came out. Some days we would hang out the windows and talk to the players. Most of them were great guys. Very few on ego trips. Good ole days--------------maybe??

I think the asbestos problem is highly exaggerated and the liability for drunken foolishness is the greater deterrent.
I also don't think there may be enough space in there for the type of "suites" folks may be envisioning, at least to lay them out as such.
I just think it's sad the school can't come up with some use for that space. Seems like they could have figured out a way to incorporate the Athletic Administration offices in there, with proper abatement and renovation, instead of in that ridiculous looking building Joe Dean built in the middle of the freaking stadium parking lot.

i know an english builing on campus had an asbestos problem on the top floor(still might\). the yjust put signs up saying to watch out for asbestos. i think it is a non issue.

Even without the abestos problem, it would be extraordinarily expensive to renovate those rooms into private suites. I can't imagine what the HVAC and plumbing costs would be. On top of that what kind of occupancy rate do you think you could achieve year round? The business case for this has to be really hard to acheive.

True, but installed asbestos material is rarely dangerous (unless it is friable and deteriorating for some reason). It only becomes deadly when you disturb it and release infinitesmal airborne asbestos fibers that can lodge in the lung. In order to remove or remediate the asbestos, that is precisely what you would have to do. I'm certain it would be a costly process.

ever spend a semester there while at LSU?
Three semesters in North Stadium, then when a space opened up, I moved to the "luxury" of South Stadium for five more semesters. Three roommates in North Stadium (two double bunk beds) but only one roommate in South Stadium.
Slept through Hurricane Betsy in North Stadium -- didn't hear a thing. Woke up to trees all over the ground (similar to Gustav last year).
I remember some wild times / wild guys in the Stadium. Quite an experience. Glad I did it, but also glad I don't have to do it again!

I toured them last year.
They are increadably small with extreamly low ceilings.
Not to mention the corridors are very small and would not meet State fire marshal requirments.
Add the Asbestos issue, HVAC and Plumbing issues I do not see this ever happening.

I lived in West Stadium and then also moved to the luxurious South Stadium. 1972 75 The price was right. Conditions were horrible. No AC, steam heating radiators, community bathrooms with no privacy, but yes we had fun.
I remember the windowboxes with pot hanging out from the third floor windows. Ooooh that smell. We were tame compared to the Pentagon.
Panty raids were a blast back then. I am sure you would offend someone if you did that today.

Same here. Remember the Ole Miss riots would start with a few guys running around the stadium, and every time we(I joined the second lap) went around more rioters would spill out of the stadium like a guppy giving birth. In no time the mob was ready to flow over to the girls dorms. The critical timing was to mass up, and go, before Campussy Security could get backup. Good Times.

Lived in East Stadium in the early 90's sophomore year. 3rd floor over the visitors entrance...The RA (who I never met or saw) would slide passes under your door so you could get into the dorms on gameday. And since most of the guys didn't stay for the weekend I would collect them and use them as party passes. Keg in the Bathroom and taunting the visitors out the windows...Fun times indeed!
They would crank the heat up so much you would have to open windows in the winter. And I remember during Spring sememster finals they were doing work on the stadium banging concrete out of the wheelbarrows in the morning at 7:00am... That sucked!
I don't remember them being so small but then again...sometimes things seem bigger in your memory...

Had a private room facing the river. My best dorm room ever.

I lived there freshman year 1978. Was definitely the coldest & hottest I have ever been. But overall it was a great experience. Second semester me & one roomate were able to get a 4 man room by ourselves so we pulled the two bunk beds out of the floor and put them together to make two larger beds. Of course the plywood was thicker than the mattresses.

What, exactly, is so unusual about the asbestos in these dorms that's taking them 30+ years to figure out how to clean it out feasibly?
Because these dorms are owned by the state of Louisiana.

Never went to the East dorms, but the North were small.

My dad lived in them after WWII. Said they had the comforts of a foxhole.

Lived in Hodges in the early 80's. My roommate and I would shoot marbles with a wrist rocket at the windows in East stadium. Did we get any of you?
Posted on 10/7/09 at 12:54 pm to Rougarou4lsu
my uncle lived there when they were used as dorm rooms back in the 70's

I spent two semesters in North Stadium and two semesters in South Stadium from '82 to '84. Those two years were probably among the most enjoyable of my life.

Alleva has mentioned taking 2 dorms and making 1 suite to be used for football weekend packages. You would be able to rent them for season to use for tailgating purposes only. This would be done when they update the facade of the stadium.
