Here's the bottom line - LSU went 41-12 in the past 4 yrs with JJ and Lee. That's basically the same record we achieved from 2002-2005 with Mauck, Randall, and Russell.
It's time for something new and better.

Don't forget the 4 heismans. Perriswag.

this is not a JJ/JLee thread
I did not attempt to make it a JJ/JL thread.
What I am saying is that over a period of three full seasons Miles could not detect that his primary QB had very few traits that a QB needs. Even when the backup was better, he would not make the change. BTW, there were other options than the 2nd stringer...especially this season.
What evidence is there that Miles has now going to do a better job in this respect?
The Malveto situation was corrected after one season. The QB thing has be protracted...over 3 full seasons.

does miles have issues? yes, certainly on offense. hopefully he FINALLY changes and we can improve on that side of the ball
Is there really any legit reason to believe that he won't?
We had a pretty dynamic offense with Flynn and JR despite not having elite coordinators
If Mett is as good as advertised, we're going to have a balanced offense next year

well we still got tight butthole syndrome in some big SEC games in 2005/2006

out of over 220,000 posts....this is definitely your best one.

i will give Miles a lot of credit for our program not sinking due to our failure at QB recruiting/development from 2008-2001.
Leading the team to a 13-0 record with 2 QB's who were considered below average by just about everyone—that's quite an accomplishment. Miles (and staff) deserve a lot of credit for this.

Please keep in mind we see games but coaches see them everyday
Playing time is based on trust
Clearly there was an off field issue that prevented miles from playing lee in the last five games like he did in the previous 9.
With jamark showing his true colors in performance and attitude is it possible that auburn 2006 was the result of Jimbo and miles not trusting Russell? I say definitely.
Lee and Russell's ability can win you a lot of games, their decision making can lose games
JJ's ability can win a lot of games and his decision making generally pays off or causes lsu to punt,
I can see where JJ running and his over all attitude to do what he is told and don't get us beat would be more attractive in a battle of unattractive QBs
Miles is the same guy that had an offense at okie state that threw it 50 times a game because they had to.
I think the Les Miles offensive philosophy is to do well whatever he thinks gives them the best chance to win.

I think this is all speculation
He has always favored JJ over Lee even in 2010
Was there something going on off the field then? If so then why did he play Lee at all?

So have I
I'm sure our stories are completely different though which would render them both useless

going through a "miss" period at QB has destroyed a few programs. for example, this problem basically has killed Miami and Florida State for about a decade. this problem is currently killing Texas
so, i will give Miles a lot of credit for our program not sinking due to our failure at QB recruiting/development from 2008-2001. this eventually happens to all programs, and LSU has withstood the problem very well. our worst year was a 5-loss season, and our best year involved an SEC championship
when your program goes through 4 years without a QB and basically the worst thing is only making one BCS bowl, you've done something else really well in that period
does miles have issues? yes, certainly on offense. hopefully he FINALLY changes and we can improve on that side of the ball (while keeping the other side elite) and we can take that next step. after Monday night, that's all we can hope for (but i hope even the biggest miles' fans realize he has serious flaws with our offensive philosophy)
but, it could be worse. just ask UGA, FSU, Miami, Texas, USC, OU, etc (who have all had losing seasons with QB issues)
But in Champions League Soccer...
JK.
Nice post.

Good to see spf not overreacting.
Still dont understand how your upset with les' conservative game calling with JJ. JJ doesnt have the ability to air it out against Bama.

My issue with this is that we had three "viable" QBs on the roster this year. Things obviously were thrown upside down by the Shady's incident, but even then it never appeared that Miles was interested in getting Mett ready should the need arise.
When JJ was reinstated, and especially after the Bama game, it clearly was his job to keep no matter what. We have no idea what really went on with Lee, but all the reliable info I have points to Lee melting down and Miles losing all confidence in him.
So even then, it never appeared that Miles considered having Mett ready in case he was needed. The staff never developed a Plan B. As Chicken and others have pointed out, Georgia (and to a lesser degree Arkansas) exposed the issues we had on offense. And still, there appeared to be no impetus or urgency to have any thing than JJ/D/ST as the formula.
I think there are only two conclusions to draw from this, and neither is reassuring. First, Mett isn't any better than JJ/JL. Second, Miles is so blindly loyal to certain players that he never considered benching either one in favor of a more talented QB.
Other coaches (who shall remain unnamed) might take the approach of saying, "Jarrett, you've been a great Tiger, you've stuck it out through good and bad, and you've been a great teammate. However, JJ is our starter, we are going to go someone else as the no.2 QB because of X, Y, Z." In doing that, the coach confronts the issue, doesn't leave anyone hanging, and gives the QB the information he needs to make a decision on his future.
I agree with SFP that Miles has done very well in spite of the QB issues. BUT -- those QB issues are of Miles' own doing. He can't blame anyone else for them. Had he addressed these problems head-on, this might have ended in a different manner.

Miles probably had flashes of 2008, and got spooked.
Of course it is all speculation, because none of the sides are talking. And I am glad the sides aren't talking, because it's nobody's business.
