I can remember in the early seventies riding back to Norco from a home loss and my friends dad and uncle's complaining about this very thing.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Because population wise, Louisiana is a very small state. Being 6’6 315 and athletic as shite is very rare anywhere but if your state only has 4 million people in it than you won’t have many of these unique athletes. If your state has 20 million people you will have more of these unique athletes.

A lot of it is genetics, but OL is the hardest position to recruit because you can’t tell how an 18 year old is going to develop. He might be already full grown or might have growing to do. A lot of them are just big softies. Trying to judge off of their frame and footwork, but the players eating habits or if they can gain or lose weight is unknown. Coach o would put an emphasis on “ankle flexion “ . Also might be clumsy now but will develop coordination later. Other positions are easier because you can tell speed and ball skills early on.
With this in mind, I would rely on transfer portal more for oline than other positions.

Used to be in top 15 population wise as recently as the 1950s. We elect chicken in every pot types that drive business and ultimately population away. LSU has endured in spite of being the flagship for what is generally a crappy state.

Louisiana produces a good bit of lineman,a lot of them just don't attend lsu, they usually develop at smaller schools.

Because they usually play defense. Just the last two years, Maason Smith & Quency Wiggins would be great OL prospects

Yup, and almost always the recruits want to play DL.

Remember the games we had to play to get Dare Rosenthal on campus? "OH yeah we're recruiting you at DL...pinky swear".

We have an issue with producing the 6-4+ guys with the frame and athleticism due to genetics, and then we also have a problem with option offenses/bad coaching in HS...but the real issue is if these body types have physical talent, they're on the DL...and we produce a ton of elite DL.

Most of the states producing high OL numbers have solid HS wrestling programs. These guys usually then play as OL on their football teams. They are already ahead of the curve on being physical by being wrestlers as well.

Because of reason already stated the few guys who come up that have the required size don’t often get to go against someone there own size in a game. Kind of hard to evaluate their ability when they routinely go up against guys that are giving up 75-100 lbs to them. That the reason camps are important for big men from this state.

We produce them, but we don't develop them. If you want to go where they are producing OL check out Colorado where these kids go out of state and start for schools like Stanford, OSU, Michigan and K State
