Those two bars are a couple blocks from Minute Maid park, but far from the rail on Main St. I think Lucky's will be a good place to party Friday night after Astro's game.

so, i'm guessing these two are more in the downtown area then...

They are, but on the edge. Not really near midtown and not really walkable to light rail. I can provide more midtown bars tomorrow. That list is missing a bunch.

SIAP: St Arnold's getting in on the action (thx LSU Houston!)

quote:

LSU Kickoff Party at Saint Arnold Friday, August 29 - 5:00 - 10:00 PM The college football season starts right here in Houston, TX this year and we're throwing a party to celebrate.

On Friday, August 29 our normal Pub Night will transform into an LSU Tiger rally party the night before the matchup between Wisconsin and LSU at NRG Stadium.

quote:

All Bayou Bengals are welcome (and everyone else too, for that matter) to join us in our tour hall from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM where we'll have regular beers on tap all night long for $4 and will have some special releases from our cellar available for purchase as well.

Between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM that night will be Tiger Power Hour where we'll donate $1 from every pint sold to LSU Houston. There will be reps from LSU Houston on hand as well with a silent auction with Tiger merchandise and memorabilia.

We also have a limited amount of special edition LSU Houston pint glasses available and you can get one for $10, which includes a full pint of beer from our regular lineup.

Rice Village has several places also. And it is only about 10 minutes from the stadium.

Little Woodrow's
55 (place is big with lots of tv's and a good beer list but the reviews on food & service are iffy)
BWW
Ginger Man (good place to drink but only a couple of small tv's)
Probably several more I don't even know about.

re: Restaurant recs near the Galleria in Houston? (Posted on 8/5/14 at 8:20 pm to Panny Crickets)
Also, because people will ask...here are the bars you should check out if you're in town that weekend.

Patio Bars-Cottonwood, Cedar Creek, West Alabama Ice House, Celtic Gardens(if you're into the whole Midtown thing still), and the 1879823749832 Little Woodrow's around town, Bar Boheme(this place is kinda hipster, well really hipster, but they have good drinks, a patio, and put out great food), Hans' Bier Haus

Craft Beers-The Hay Merchant, Petrol Station, Mongoose vs. Cobra, D&T Drive Inn, Beer Market Company(I haven't actually been here but I hear it's got a big bottle selection), Moontower Inn(craft beer and gourmet hot dogs, you don't like this then get the hell out of my city)

Craft Cocktail-Anvil(Houston's original craft cocktail bar), Pastry War(tequila/mescal bar with craft cocktails centered around them), Julep(think southern cocktails, juleps obvs, cherry bounce, and cold seafood bar), OKRA, Lei Low Bar(if you have a hankering for big arse tiki drinks, come here)

For all the hipsters-Poison Girl, Bar Boheme, Grand Prize Bar, Little Dipper, Capt. Foxheart's, Big Star

Other bars that don't really have a "type" but aren't full of....shitheads typically-Local Pour, Liberty Station, Downhouse, Jackson's(I really like this place and it's patio, it's in my neighborhood, but when school's out it's full of frat stars, and I'm over that shite, take your Chacos and pastels and frick off kids)

If you want to dance with somebody-Hughes Hanger or Barbarella

If you are a shithead....go to Midtown...Celtic Garden is probably the best of all those terrible places down there.

Where is the St. Arnold's Brewery? If we get in early enough we may try to check it out before going to the Astro's game.

Probably gonna bar hop before until around 3 or so on gameday before taking the rail to the stadium.

Is that considered Midtown?

I'd consider midtown as Dogwood, Glasslamp, Drinkery, Pub Fiction, Celtic, etc.

I want to say it was a $6 uber fare from midtown to Jackson's, so still easily doable.

I used to ride my bike from the brewery to the park. Easy to park at the brewery and catch a cab to the game. It's slightly to far to walk. But you can see Minute maid from the roof of the brewery. www.saintarnold.com 2000 Lyons Ave. Located on the north side of I-10 in downtown.

Here's a few in midtown. All of these are going to be 21-26 age range, mostly. They will also all be packed.

Midtown Bars:

Dogwood - Mostly outdoor patio bar; attractive women abound

Drinkery - Dance floor upstairs; not clubby but people dance; regular bar downstairs.

Red Door - Vegas club all the way; will be wall to wall; super annoying unless you are highly intoxicated.

Gas Lamp - Newish place; huge patio on roof and outside; big indoor bar on first floor. Women dig it.

Celtic Garden - mostly outdoor patio bar; women will be there.
