I'm curious to see who steps in at 3rd. Some of the negatigers have harped on Hanover at times this year. I don't think they realize how good/consistent he has played that position for 4 years and a career +.300 hitter. Him and Nola will be missed greatly.

I think Jacoby can step in at SS. I hope he can pick up his focus and be that team leader like Nola. We will need that next year.

Jacoby has the tools to play SS. We'll see if that's the route they go.

He won't.

I've been to 15 or 20 practices this year, and Yocom just can't hit. I don't know what happened in fall ball, because the coaches say he tore it up and was hitting around .400, but he has awful bat speed. I've literally seen him swing and miss 10 times in a row in BP. Not saying he can't turn it around, but he's got limited tools.

Yeah...They must be tweaking his swing...I hope. You'll see that happen at any level when they are tweaking a swing. Some times players never adjust, and some times it's like a light switch.

So what's the deal with this Kolby Copeland kid from Bossier City (Parkway HS)? SIAP, but did we recruit him. I'm seeing that he's a top 100 prospect in many projections.

JaCoby's natural position in highschool was SS. He may be moved there.

I still think until seeing him play that losing Nola and Hanover at SS and 3rd will hurt this team. They both are so good at their positions.

Not sure about Copeland. He signed with a juco so he probably was either going pro asap or has grade issues.

What current players can we expect to get selected today?

Nola
Rhymes
Goody
Katz?

Anyone else?

Doubtful they will even approach $2.5-mm... I wouldn't expect him to get near $1.4-mm unless they really want him. Which I am betting they don't since they picked him up with their 2nd pick. It was likely a best available type pick.

quote:

Exceed slot by anything more than 5 percent, and then the real penalties kick in, starting with the loss of a first-round pick in the next draft. They get precipitously steeper from there, with an overage of more than 15 percent resulting in the loss of two first-round picks.

It is an unprotected pick so there is no reason for them to pick him if they don't want him. And the over slot penalty is if they go over their total pool amount for the top 10 rounds, not if they go over on a certain pick.

I think Nola will hear his name towards the end of the day as well as Goody.

Rhymes could go anywhere from round 6 to 30, the main question is how high will a team risk that pick on him when his natural position is most likely 2B at the next level.

I never said they didn't want him. I said the don't REALLY want him, like they don't have to have this guy. They targeted pitching, CF & middle infielders in this draft according to their GM. He was the best available for what they were looking for. If they absolutely had to have him, they would have drafted him as their #1, which was after most mocks had him going anyway.

Also, if they sign him for $2.5-mm then they have to take the $1.2-mm that they pay over slot for him out of the other slots they have. If they don't pay the other picks slot, some won't sign. That will make the $1.2-mm extra (already ~20% over their total bonus pool) for Gallo a higher percent of the total since they lose the bonus money for an unsigned pick.

So if the Rangers sign all picks, pay slot and give Gallo $2.5-mm, they will forfeit 2-first round draft picks and have to pay a $900k tax. Either way, I think he takes the $1.3-mm and goes...
