Technically nothing is in the clear till the draft is over and we hear about what final offers go out to who was selected, but looks very promising to this point.

If I'm Garza, no way am I getting some peanuts offer in the 11-40th round to leave school now, I'm coming back and starting a whole season at catcher and mashing it like he has been the last month with improvement behind the plate itself. The guy could be a Top 5 round draft pick next year.

There is no doubt. His progression reminds me a ton of Louis Coleman in 2008.

Where is this signing class projected to end up as far as ranking?

Impossible to say right now, but we were #2 before the draft, behind Vandy, in perfect game's rankings.

Vandy had 3 commits drafted in Top 10 rounds, we had 4. So it's unlikely we move up.

Florida was #3 and also had 3 commits drafted in first 10 rounds.

I wonder if the shoulder injury had anything to do with it.

I guess I'll just expand on perfect games class rankings for now:

1. Vanderbilt - 20 HS commits, 3 drafted in Top 10 rounds
2. LSU - 17 HS commits, 4 drafted in Top 10 rounds
3. UF - 18 HS commits, 3 drafted in Top 10 rounds
4. Ole Miss - 19 HS commits, 0 drafted in Top 10 rounds
5. Texas A&M - 15 HS commits, 4 drafted in Top 10 rounds
6. Mississippi St. - 17 HS commits, 1 drafted in Top 10 rounds
7. TCU - 17 HS commits, 1 drafted in Top 10 rounds
8. Miami - 14 HS commits, 1 drafted in Top 10 rounds
9. FIU (WTF?) - 19 HS commits, 2 drafted in Top 10 rounds
10. Auburn - 15 HS commits, 1 drafted in Top 10 rounds

Yes, the Top 6 classes are all from the SEC. Ole Miss got away with murder to have nobody drafted and they have 4 Top 100 commits (by comparison though, Vandy and us led the rankings with 8 Top 100 commits each).

And no, no idea how FIU had such a great recruiting class. They only had 1 Top 100 commit.

I’m sure they’ll get all 3 on campus somehow

Also, I just went back to our 2017 class, and wow was it bad.

Ended up ranked 16th on Perfect game, it had 4 Top 100 commits, 2 which got drafted and signed (Enlow, Pearson). So we brought just 2 Top 100 kids in and 1 of those was Storz...

Here's the whole makeup of that class per PG:

(Top 1000) Brandt Broussard - Bat has struggled a bit in coming around
(Top 100) Daniel Cabrera - Very good player, maybe wish for a little more out of him
(Top 1000) Braden Doughty - Bullpen catcher
(Top 100) Blayne Enlow - Drafted and signed, never made it in
(Top 250) Devin Fontenot - Solid career so far
(Top 1000) Saul Garza - Went JUCO from this class for a year and came in following year
(Top 500) Ma'khail Hilliard - Probably better than expected considering ranking
(Top 500) Hal Hughes - Well his defense is good
(Top 500) Brandon Kaminer - Went JUCO, signed for 2019 class now
(Top 300) AJ Labas - promising freshman year derailed by injury, missed this year
(Top 500) Brock Mathis - Went JUCO for a year then came in this past season
(Top 100) Jacob Pearson - Drafted and signed, never made it in
(Unranked) Taylor Petersen - Transferred out after doing basically nothing
(Top 100) Nick Storz - The enigma
(Top 300) Trent Vietmeier - Better sophomore season vs. freshman year, but nothing too special
(Top 500) Nick Webre - Transferred out after not getting much playing time

I mean, yikes.

Trying to figure out what the staff saw in Taylor Peterson. That is an example of not just having any LHP on the team

Florida and Vanderbilt are both getting a great pitcher in (Barco - Florida) and (Leiter - Vanderbilt).

I do have to raise my glass to the Mets for taking Matthew Allan in the 3rd round. They drafted and I'm not making this up ALL seniors in rounds 4-10. They'll have 2-3 million easily to give him and sign.

If he doesn't sign then yes I'll jump on board that O'Sullivan is doing dirty work.

62 Ks in 35 innings his sophomore year in JUCO. He just couldn't find the strikezone here.

Brandon Nowak was more of the head scratcher to me. I thought Petersen would be able to contribute in a weekend relief role.

That 2017 class should be referenced any time someone wants to talk up Cannizaro's recruiting prowess. He didn't recruit Broussard, but Broussard is here because a guy he did recruit (Bechtold from Chipola) never made it to campus.

That list also doesn't show Mason Doolittle and Matt Schroer who both quit the team before their freshman seasons began.

Plus Brandon McCabe, Johnny Ray, and Miguel Reyes who fell out of the class at various points prior to either signing day or enrollment.

To say we've struggled to get LHP in here is an understatement.

2015
John Valek (very solid transfer)
Nick Bush (very good)
Brandon Nowak (Left after a year)

2016
Blair Fredrick (yeahhhhhhh...)

2017
Brandon Kaminer (Went JUCO)
Taylor Petersen (Ugh)

2018
Easton McMurray (missed whole season with injury)

2019
Jacob Hasty
Brandon Kaminer (Did not have the best JUCO season, ERA was north of 5)

You can't look at the PG lists and use them for accurate information on JUCOs.

They list all the players as the HS year.

Nowak did make it to campus. Kaminer didn't commit to us out of HS, he went to Miami and got injured and transferred to JUCO his freshman year.

Enlow really fricked us that year. He could have been a weekend starter as a freshman. What I recall is he got like double his slot value as the team that drafted him saved money elsewhere to sign him. He was the first pick on the second day just like Watson. I think it was the dbacks?
