The biggest question surrounding Cairo might be how signable he is, with a commitment to LSU perhaps standing in the way. He could be a really good college player who comes out in three years with a higher profile, with some seeing a bit of a Christian Colon type profile in him.
This had me thinking he would definitely be headed to college, but we will see. I’m not sure what overslot money Cleveland has, but I’d imagine they feel real good about striking a deal. Nobody wants to waist a 4th round pick and 400k on a guy who is set to go to college.

I had heard Hess had told PM that he was leaving regardless of where selected. That was a while back though so it could have changed

So who do you think we lose then.
Espino will sign
Hinds will sign
Lewis will sign
Cairo I'm 50/50 even with this pick. He's being offered the chance to start at SS next year, Cain and Mainieri are way more in the know on this but it's going to come down to does he want to play in college or go straight to minors...money is not what's going to be the decision maker.

I've never been super confident in getting Cairo to campus. I just feel like MLB kids end up signing most of the time.

If he does sign our infield has a decent sized question mark next year. Bianco/Dugas need to step up quick

If Cairo chooses to sign, who is our every day SS next year?

Where would Hampton have gone if he wasn’t 100% committed to LSU? Just curious

He said he got calls late first round

His dad played in the MLB for a long time. I doubt they’re hurting for money.

Nobody will like the obvious answer........ doughty will probably be 3rd, Cranford might be able to push Hughes at some point but that’s about it

I heard hampton had a call from the diamondbacks in round 2 for 1.2 mil or so and he rejected it

Cranford had TJ, I don't know what his status is to start the season.

The reports that came out said Dbacks and 1 other team called him at the back end of round 1 with 1.8. Apparently that didn’t meet his number

This!
What I don't get though, is why would a guy who absolutely doesn't need the money right now, not want to go to a place like LSU. From what all former players say, the minors is a huge grind that can really suck the joy out of playing if you have to do it too long.
I get not wanting to go to school; but hell, I think if I was in his shoes, I would definitely go to a place like LSU where players are worshiped, continue your development outside of the horrible conditions and grind of the minors, and set yourself up for a better draft position in 2-3 years with more money and a chance of spending less time in the minors before being called up. And as for school, you should be able to take the minimum hours and some damn easy courses that will allow for your time in class and stress level to be pretty low.

I dont think it has anything to really do with money. Again, guys in these rounds just dont seem to not sign in the new draft, meaning almost all deals are probably done before they are even drafted.

All told, 310 of the 314 players taken in the first 10 rounds of 2018 draft signed pro contracts. (3 of the 4 unsigned were in the 1st round). The four unsigned choices are the third-lowest total ever, after two in 2016 and three in 2017.

I’ve seen something saying they thought he could be ready for the fall. Not sure if that has changed

People don't understand how much negotiating is done prior to these picks. Generally, teams don't waste a top pick on someone that hasn't at least verbally come to terms.
