No, I am just going off the official school website which clearly states that ULL is not an acceptable abbreviation. LINK
Also states this:
Hmm..... Sounds like Louisiana is acceptable
quote:
Do not refer to the University as ULL in any instance.
Also states this:
quote:
Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns® is the nickname of the University’s athletic teams. Teams also may be referred to using shorter versions of that nickname.
Hmm..... Sounds like Louisiana is acceptable

My terminology may be wrong, but when the Legislature passes a bill, it's law to me.
Buddy, we're on the same side of this debate in general, but on this point you're wrong.
Look at any official document and they refer to the school as ULL. Just because an idiotic fanbase think they are something else and calls themselves something else doesn't mean anyone is breaking the law.
Posted on 6/4/15 at 1:52 pm to 18handicap
Also you claim that the academic side of ULL doesn't violate any of the Legislature's intentions....
I call BS
website -- www.louisiana.edu
shouldn't it be www.ull.edu???

So when you tell people where you went to school, you say ULL right? Because that's saying that it is a nickname for athletics.
That would be like me telling people I went to the Bayou Bengals for my degree.

No I'm cool with you Abita...my terminology was different
We are definitely on the same side!!

Yeah, that was a side thing I included for all the people who tell me I cannot refer to our sports team as Louisiana. The main point was the first part that you conveniently ignored. The school does not refer to itself as ULL and in fact instructs other people not to.

does ULM have a similar page?

Ok.. Now that is funny

So put entire thing on diploma just never abbreviate it... Cuz we like that no..

I've linked this before, but here we go again.
University of Louisiana System Website
University of Louisiana at Lafayette Website
quote:
UL policy also mandates any reference to either school's abbreviated name, however, requires the use of the "municipal location of the institution" -- either Lafayette or Monroe. Neither school can claim the use of "UL."
Source of Above Quote
....so in conclusion, the school does and legally has to refer to itself as ULL, or the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
quote:
Media reports have claimed university athletics officials have encouraged ESPN announcers to refer to the Cajuns simply as "Louisiana." Martin said the university would prefer either "Louisiana" or "Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns." These are just options, he added, saying he's heard some announcers use "disrespectful" nicknames like "Oh La-La" to refer to the teams.
Any instructions not to come from the athletic department, and those "instructions" are more like "suggestions." It would be the equivalent to Miami asking the media to only call them "The U" or Ohio State requesting that the media always say "THE Ohio State University." You can request whatever you want, that doesn't make it official.

Oh you follow that but dont follow the other part which tells you exactly how to refer to the University?
quote:
University of Louisiana at Lafayette® has been the formal and official name of the University since 1999. Please use it in first reference to the University in text. UL Lafayette may be used as an abbreviation to refer to the academic institution when clarification is necessary
Notice nowhere in there it says to refer to the University as UL

Yeah, but it also clearly says not to refer to the university as ULL and LSU fans do it all the time so I'm just gonna keep on saying UL.

We also say on a MESSAGE BOARD and to friends:
CPM, CLM, OBJ. And many other things that the actual person would not prefer but its gets the message across.
But I welcome you to put a copyright after every first usage of your schools name. ©
Do you want to know how to do it?

Same. I will go back to every single one of my posts in this thread and change "ULL" to "UL Lafayette" if you'll change every "UL" and "University of Louisiana" as well.
Then moving forward we can both say "UL Lafayette" and end this debate forever. Agreed?

Good, because I'm enjoying this argument way too much for it to end.
