They aren't. They got ALL of the #2 votes!

You guys are misunderstanding...LSU is unanimous #1, Bama is unanimous #2, they got all the 2 votes in ap

if the big 12 coaches vote for ok st as their #1, is that enough to put ok st over bama?
Posted on 11/27/11 at 11:50 am to levee-runner
I guess in theory it would help them, but I can't believe that would ever happen tbh.

I think Bedlam being next week will make people forget that it's not a real conference championship game, and will negate VaTech's perceived advantage of winning the extra game there.

Unanimous #2 votes guys. They didn't get any #1 votes, just 100% of the number 2 votes.
I didn't look it up, but that's how I understood earlier posts. Don't anyone tell me BAMA got a #1 vote. I'm not having that nonsense.

Just running some quick numbers IF (0% chance of being exactly the same) the Harris and Coaches Poll mirrored the AP this is what the BCS Standings would look like tonight.
(I also had to do some guesswork with computers so they will be a tad bit off, but just so you can see with the percentage of poll votes)
1. LSU 1.000
2. Alabama 0.947
3. Oklahoma State 0.891
4. Stanford 0.806
5. Virginia Tech 0.798

Also, you have to keep in mind West coast voters. You would think they would get behind Stanford; however, they have to be smart enough to know that ultimately it hurts the chance of anyone outside of Bama getting in if second place votes get split up between other one loss teams in OSU, Stanford, and Tech.
It's a lot like politics, they know whose back to scratch and whose bills to pass if they want to get re-elected or in this case unseat the incumbent or favorite in Bama. Although, Va Tech should have an argument if they win big over Clemson, everyone knows they don't have computer score to have any realistic shot.
Part of me thinks if OSU wins with style, regardless of what Tech does then they still have a shot because voters are smart enough to get behind OSU if they really don't want to see a rematch.

Never underestimate the power of perception of the masses who will be voting, just think there is too much at stake letting Bama back in after the way things play out and with the body of work they put together. It's unfortunate for them as they are undoubtably the second best team, but that doesn't always mean you get in. If they would have a bit stronger OOC resume then we wouldn't be having this discussion.

When they sit down to evaluate the whole body of work of Bama, OSU, Va Tech, and Stanford it seems obvious to take a team with best computer score outside of LSU who is tops in their conference, and discount their loss in OT because of extrenious circumstances. Could easily see the media getting back behind that feel good story and drumming up a David versus Goliath national championship to avoid backlash from a national audience and other conferences sick of SEC dominating the championship game as well as backfire of Bama potentially winning and having split national championship talk again circa 2003.
This. If OSU rolls to conivincing win, it may cause a few restless nights in BAMA...

I know its unlikely which may make it more likely, but what if both VT and OSU win and the voters vote them 2 and 3 and Bama 4?

With VT playing quality opponent this weekend, is their no chance overcome Bama it the computers?

I think there would be a few poeple who might do that (maybe even 5th behind Stanford), but that would be more than outweighed by the people who voted OSU 4th or 5th and Bama 2nd.

If OSU finishes with vote ranking higher than Bama then they are undoubtably in with their computer score. I don't really think Va Tech has any realistic shot at getting in to be honest. Their computer numbers are hurting them pretty bad at this point.
If you are pulling against a rematch, what you don't want is Va tech stealing any of OSU's second or third place votes in that hypothetical you brought up.

If Bama is a unanimous #2, I think a rematch is guaranteed. If there was a movement to put OSU over them, it would have at least started by now. No chance enough voters change their minds in 1 week.

that's how it should be.
Outright champions of BCS conferences should be ranked ahead of teams with equal losses but no championship

Assuming both VT and Okie St. win next weekend, wouldn't an Okie St. win against a Top 10 (assuming OU remains in Top 10) team look better (and thus help their human poll votes) than a Va. Tech win against a lower tier Top 25 team?
I appreciate your insight on this.
