Adam do you think LSU will be doing a lot of rotation at C, 1B, 2B, and DH like last year?
C Sciv/Pap
1B Chinea/Hale
2B Robertson/Hale
DH Chinea/Sciv/Pap/Deichmann
I don't see how you bench Hale if his bat is like last years. I don't see PM benching Sciv or Chinea much either. He's also been working Pap at C and Robertson at 2B a lot January.

Unless Scivicque's bat stays hot like it was pre-conference last year, I see him being the odd man out among Hale, Robertson, Chinea, and Papierski.

"He’s the most advanced freshman catcher that we’ve had since I’ve been here. Even more so than Micah Gibbs,” Mainieri said. "He showed up to fall camp ready to play. His defensive skills are outstanding. If we didn’t have Kade Scivicque, he’d probably be our starting catcher.”

Chinea needs to learn how to at least look competent against lefty pitching.

For the sake of having the players find a groove the positions need to be set.
C and DH I think we'll see some major rotation early on.
Hale has proven his bat and glove he will not sit.
Chinea has not proven his bat and glove to the extent he deserves to have a position locked up for the year.
Robertson at 2B and Papierski at C are at the positions they need to be.

I will say the same thing about Chinea. Either guy could be the odd man out.

Adam, I'm probably going to look like an idiot again, but can you expand on your grades for Bregman in relation to the position overall grade?

I don't understand how you give him a 65 in the fielding and arm strength categories. according to your scale i would place him at 70 maybe even 75 on fielding and arm strength. I probably haven't seen him play as many times as you have, but in the 10-15 games i went to last year and the 10-15 i went to his freshman year the kid makes amazing off balance throws deep in the hole because of his amazing arm strength. Simply put i think 65 is not giving him the credit due.

Bregman made a statement stating it would be first round or LSU…he got a call from a team in round 2 but sticking to his word he respectfully declined

I do think he deserves a few more 70s. But I was referring to the overall position score (75) compared to Bregman's. It seems to insinuate that Byrd is all 80s.

Thanks for the question ell, you are my most studious student here on TD.
The overall grade takes into account much more than a players tools alone.

Again, this is my opinion. I take pleasure that you don't agree with me here so we can spark this convo.
Bregman has a great glove and arm, it's a plus to a plus plus but he's not at that near top of the charts level...at least not yet at the age of 21.
What makes Bregman so good is his hard work and the way he uses his tools almost flawlessly every reception and throw.

I've seen byrd flash some impressive leather at the scrimmages I've attended, how solid is his bat? Is he a .300+ guy or what?
Posted on 2/4/15 at 11:58 am to KingBeingking
As a freshman with limited at bats? Nope
He and Deichmann have All-SEC written on them as juniors though. They're going to form a very solid infield for years to come.

Do you think he can be our for sure shortstop next year? And how many games can we expect to see him play? Like 20? Over or under?
Posted on 2/4/15 at 1:37 pm to KingBeingking
Good chance KRob will be at short next year
Posted on 2/4/15 at 1:46 pm to ell_13
Yeah. I thought about that as soon as I posted it.
Out of curiosity would y'all rather a lights out defender who hits decent at best, or huge stick who plays barely passable defense? (Not at shortstop)

It typically depends on position. The big 3 are Catcher, Short, and Center. Those guys up the middle shore up the defense. It just so happens that SS is usually your most athletic guy meaning he can often hit well, too. 3B is next, especially once you hit the college level going up. All other positions you'll usually emphasize hitting over defense.

As ell said...Robertson will shore up one of the middle infield spots with Bryd and Deichmann filling out 2B and 3B. It could even push Zardon to 1B but it's too early to tell.
I think Bryd may get 50 at bats this year. He's not starting over Bregman and I could only see him at 2B or 3B if there are major failures at the position early on.
