Honestly, this makes me really like Dozar. Willing to do whatever it takes to make the field. He's not one of our stars, but every program needs guys like Dozar who will do whatever the coach asks.

HEIGHT: 6-1

First Base
Blake Dean (Sr.)*
Grant Dozar (So.)
Beau Didier (RFr.)
When Blake Dean was drafted in the 10th round by the Minnesota Twins in last year’s draft few expected him to be back. Mainieri on the other hand held out hope speaking to Blake and explaining the benefits from playing an entire year at an infield position to increase his draft stock. In the middle of July Dean put any uncertainty to rest exclaiming he would be back for his senior year. “I’m pretty fired up about coming back and doing whatever I can to help us win another national championship,” Dean said. “I wouldn’t be coming back if didn’t think we had a legitimate chance to do what we did this year. I love the idea of having a chance to win again, and I’m looking forward to being with this group of guys and spending another year at LSU.” From the start of last year until the Saturday game against Ole Miss which Dean finally started to break out of his slump he had an abysmal .235 batting average. As the weather warmed so did his bat while helping lead a potent offensive attack which racked up 107 homeruns. Currently eighth all time in homeruns at LSU Dean looks to end his fabulous college career in Omaha hoisting the teams seventh national title. Backing up will be a combination of Keonenman who brings a strong bat and power along with Beau Didier who I believe will find a starting spot in the lineup somewhere before the year is over.

Very well done, again. Thanks

I think Didier could find a spot in the lineup too, someone will struggle early on and he'll get a shot, happens every year

It just shows the flaw of rating a player by his tools. While it is interesting, and I'm glad Adam is giving us his ratings on the tools, but Dean is one of the best players in the country even without the ability to run very fast.
Skills trump tools in baseball.

I agree wholeheartedly, for instance Jared Mitchell was an absoulte freak of an athlete and changed the game more than any other player on the basepaths; however there wouldn't be but two categories I could rate him over average and he was STILL a 1st rounder.

Mitchell was a first round pick based on tools not skills. He was one of our least productive players (though an absolute terror on the basepaths). Freak of an athlete, though.

Sadly, he will be viewed as a good hitter and defensive liability unless he steps his defense way up at 1st this year.
MLB is littered with these guys.

Which is true, but just shows how poor talent evaluation is. Dean helps you win because he can hit a ton. He could be the worst defensive player ever with the worst arm in history and he'd still be a huge asset because of his bat.
Dean is a great player.

Dean is also very clutch. And clutch is not a tool that can be measured 1-5

Wasn't Dean a highly recruited pitcher coming out of high school? I know he had arm problems, but didn't he have surgery to fix that.
