I think jones will be in the lineup before the year is done. He wasn't on 1st team at the scrimmages I have been to but that doesn't mean much. I think once he sees enough pitching at this level his athleticism will set in and he will see the field. There is no doubt he looks like a natural ballplayer

If anyone on this team deserves a 1 in the speed department, it's Ross..haha. He's not quite Gaudet, but he is very slow.

Who cares...catchers have never been associated with speed on the base paths; all I am concerned about at this point is that Ross is a good defensive catcher and has a good arm to throw out base runners. Hitting will come with time, and he may even surprise...

pretty sure Rios was one of the players named in the mitchell report

He was in the Mitchell Report, but I just look at the fact he was a great player for LSU...

Dandy Don said he talked to PM at the Bash and that Hanover will be at 3rd ..Rhymes at 2nd..DH still up in the air.

That wasn't what Mainieri had out there at the first scrimmage last week. I'd be surprised to see something change in a week.

When I was talking to Raph the other night and he said that he had been playing second I was pretty shocked because of what I had been reading on here and hadn't talked to him in a while. He said that he's been at second and Hanover at third. Also said that he's been working at Right field a little too. I'm really not too surprised anymore, he has played second since we were kids and has always been as clutch as they come. Maybe Jacoby needs some more time before he gets used to college ball.

The scrimmage hasn't started yet, Hanover is practicing with the first team at 3B and Rhymes is at 2B.

Tyler H. was at 3rd base today as well. Looks like he will get the start in a few weeks.

The uppercase 'C' in JaCoby does throw one into confusion at first.

Adam, thanks for the thread as always.

A small request, however.... along with the height/weight of each starter, can you add whether the player is R/L for hitting and throwing? Yes, I know I can go to LSUSports.net and find that out, but I just think it will be helpful for the thread.

Outfield

Trey Watkins (Jr.)*
Mikie Mahtook (Jr.)*
Mason Katz (So.)*
Jimmy Dykstra (So.)
Spencer Ware (Fr.)

The outfield once again will be a strong point for LSU in the upcoming season. Highlighting the group is preaseason all-american Mikie Mahtook. Mikie has already left his mark at LSU and is hoping to go out with a bang this season vaulting him to be a 1st round selection. Mahtook is LSU's best all around player and looks to lead the team in homeruns for the upcoming season. Trey Watkins will man left field where he's hoping he can stay healthy after an unfortuante collison costed him a portion of the season in 2010. Trey is going to be the sparkplug this team needs not only at the plate but on the basepaths. With the bat reductions hit and runs and steals will be more prominent. Mason Katz, LSU's starting rightfielder is not a player that jumps out at you by his measurables or power numbers...he's what you define as a role player. Role players on a baseball team often get overlooked, they don't hit for power, steal the most bases, or have the highest batting average. Katz is by far one of the scrappiest kids you will find, the one that competes day in and day out giving everything so the "team" can be successful. It's guys like Mason that keep the engine running for a team, the engine we take for granted until it ceases to function. Remeber Katz batted around .460 in a prospect league last summer before substaining a shoulder injury. Backing up the outfielders will be sophomore Jimmy Dykstra who along with Ryan Eades are the Tigers two way prospects (RHP/OF). Both figure to get significant work in on the mound. Spencer Ware the highly touted football prospect will get a few at bats early on to prove his worth. It will interesting to see how Mainieri wishes to utilize Ware's speed.

Spring at the Box is one of the best times of the year.

LSU's outfield has been very strong for a long time and this year seems to be no exception. Has Mason made significant strides over the offseason? He did well coming in last year and providing a quality bat, just wondering how he will handle being the starter from the get go.
