Not real happy with unranked Iowa as opponent. Losses to Northern Illinois, Michigan State, Wisconsin, & Ohio State. Other than the 1st game loss to N. Illinois (who turned out pretty good) other 3 losses were to legitimate teams. I think we're a 2 TD better team even with a new QB. I just hope we don't look at the game like the CFL Bowl last year against Clemson. Iowa definitely has more to gain from the game but we definitely have the more talented team.

I can't believe these bowls still exist.
In 5-10 more years they won't.

You guys sure have a lot of confidence in Jennings seeing that this will be the first time he starts and has expectations on him. I wouldnt be surprised if it's a lowish scoring game...
24-21 LSU.

This is not a good match up for LSU. Iowa will play like it's their Super Bowl and LSU will play like it's the toilet bowl. Advantage Hawkeyes

I don't know if the team thinks the same way as some of the spoiled tards on this board as most were still in jr high last time we played.

I think that most will enjoy the trip to Tampa, I know I will and looking forward to it.

As far as playing Iowa being a bummer, the game could be a lot closer than a lot think. If you go you'll have a good time and Iowa looks to be on the same level as Ole Miss, Miss State, Kentucky, Ark and Fla this year. IMO.

Some of you are too spoiled and aren't old enough to remember the 80's, when you would sit and watch other teams play in bowls. If I'm not mistaken they could have taken SC.

More like "2nd best program in the SEC", at the very least. Y'all should be pumped to play LSU. Trust me, you'd be disappointed seeing an injured Manziel and an apathetic Aggie team and crowd. We travel really well and would give you great exposure, but LSU is OG.

Also, thy party and tailgate better than anyone in the SEC, IMO

I'd have to agree with this, since they are unranked but there is a moral satisfaction that we gain by beating the hell out of them and leveling the table. If we go down though it will be a stain that we will never shake.

So hanging the largest score possible on them, no mercy would be the goal in my book.

A Heavy Fire Team would be just fine with me.

I'm thinking this too. Lots of work for Neighbors and Hill.

I do NOT think we'll have a Lee type performance out of Jennings. And Jennings may have had more than enough practice to be fully integrated into Cam Cam's offense, but if LSU can ground pound it, they will.

I'm not disappointed. It's a good matchup. And LSU's defense is soft against the run so I expect a tough game.

Im not crazy about the match-up but the exciting thing about this bowl is to see what we'll have at QB for the next couple of years. Getting Jennings a month working with the first team and a competitive game under his belt is huge for going into next year.

I love Mett, but his injury might be a blessing in disguise for the long term good of the team, since this bowl doenst really mean anything.

Nice post, Brew Hawk. I'd feel more confident about this matchup if Mett were starting. Jennings is a talent but he's a true FR and our defense up the middle has been weak this year (lost too many underclassmen last year and are playing guys that are still a little young or who have been career backups). We handled Auburn earlier in the year but have been inconsistent. I wish I could say we've truly gotten better over the year but the Arkansas game is a yellow light as we should have handled them easier. It also showed we still have a ways to go to defense against physical teams. Historically, LSU hasn't really dominated a quality Big Ten opponent in any of its games (unless you count the 1995 Independence Bowl against Michigan State). I really don't know how the game will go at this point but I'm hoping for a good game and an LSU win. Hope you guys have a good time (but not at our expense)!

Sorry, I forgot that we killed Illinois in the 2002 Sugar Bowl. Perhaps they weren't a "quality" Big 10 opponent Have a good Christmas and New Year!

You also have to remember he now has a month to take all first team reps and Iowa has maybe 15-20 snaps of him on film. Yeah he is just a FR, but an extremely good one with a good amount of time to prepare.

It just does not matter. If we win, good but more important is to improve and build for next year. Get AJ some reps, fit in new receivers and maybe look at a new running back, linebackers and DLs. In other words, I hope we treat this like a great big scrimmage building to next year and not go all out to win a meaningless game.

Winning would be great but everything now is pointing to next year. Just saw where the "Chief" is in the final year of his contract in 2014 and bets are that he retires and heads back to Knoxville and his family.

We will have a great team coming back. I hope we play well and get to look at players who need some reps.

Well we beat Illinois and OSU pretty good, but lost to Iowa and PSU. So 2-2 in BCS era against Big10.
