Off season discussion about Lane Kiffin and Tight Ends.

I’ll say it, I’m obsessed with tight ends. Not scared to admit it. You’re allowed to joke about Lane and tight ends as well. This is not my webite I don’t make the rules.
But in between some jokes, I’d like to hear your breakdown of how Lane will use these threats.
You’re also allowed to correct my depth chart and denominations.
TE
Tredez Green. 6-7
JD Lafleur. 6-6
JC Anderson. 6-6
TE/H-Back
Malachi Thomas. 6-3
Zach Grace 6-3
Walk on, Landon Craig
I have a vision that TE will be used even IF we didn’t have Tredez. Lane likes weapons everywhere. But Tredez has so much ability that he’s a threat on every play.
I’ve been accused of obsessing over two TE sets, but they don’t work if you don’t have the right personnel.
But I’m hoping that Lane sees the strengths of each player and allows the confusion of every defense to where they don’t know if a guy is blocking or catching.
Tredez is not the best blocking threat. But I wonder what happens when Green and Thomas/Grace are on the field together.
I used tk like those Shane Matthews/Danny Wuerffel TE shovel underhand passes to the middle. It was a threat to be Accounted for.
What are your thoughts on how tight ends get utilized?

He prefers the ones in the 18-24 range. I can’t blame him, either.

First thing to do when assessing TE is understanding Treydez is a WR, and then go from there.

Okay. I get that. Thank you. But do you see him ever lining up beside the tackle?

Rarely. I think it was about 6-7% last year with the old staff. I wouldn't expect a ton of movement from that number.

The great tight ends are valuable for sure, but a mediocre player on the field just to put a tight end may not be better
For arguments sake spreading the field with 4 or 5 receivers can open up the running game getting defensive players out of the tight box
Great Tight Ends are super hard to find
Tony Gonzalez
Rob Gronkowski
Shannon Sharpe
Travis Kelce
Winslow

No first thing to do is spell Trey'Dez right.

Really would be so cool if he pops off

Correct. Tre dez is a TE in the same way that Kyle Pitts is a “TE”

Joey Freshwater is the real expert.
Personally, it's a tight belly that does it for me.
