Of any coach on the staff, Cregg needs to be the one to go

The hot topic is running Pelini or Linehan out of town ASAP and putting Coach O on the hot seat soon, but when you look across the fabric of our O line play over the last few years, nothing has actually improved.

One compliment would be that we've taken some lowly rated guys out of high school and developed them into NFL starters in just a few years. Cushenberry, D. Lewis, Saahdiq Charles to name a few. However when you look at that 2019 O line on paper, they should have been dominant. I know they won the Joe Moore award but lets call a spade a spade, they weren't that impressive at all. Joe Burrow was running for his life for the better part of last season and some of his and CEH's most iconic plays were a result of the O line straight up not blocking or missing assignments.

I think if anyone gets fired over the offseason, James Cregg should be first on the list. His 3 highest rated recruits have yet to play a meaningful down at LSU and neither have the lower rated ones for that matter. It's the most important position group on the field and we've got a coach with no real track record of developing high school athletes into NFL ready college players. We need someone in that position who can recruit much better and at least make our O line look like an organized unit.

Didn't the OL win the award for best in the country last year?

You say he has developed talent and then you say he hasn’t developed talent. So, which is it? To be fair, Cush and Dame are both rookie starters in the nfl and saahdiq is a good player too. You kind of discredit the 2019 line and the award they got, even good nfl lines get blown up at times and LSU last year played a BUNCH of good defenses. I get what you’re saying but he’s done an okay job imo, at some point the players have to do their part and these guys get no push at all and that’s not all his fault.

Neither did Ensminger when it came to his praise for the offense last season.

He gets a pass but not Cregg?

Ensminger had the number 1 offense in the country and in the history of college football last season, and yet everyone wants him gone

I knew that might be brought up. Those few guys were the one bright spot individually, but when you look closer at O line play over the last few years, the unit as a whole should be a lot better than it has been. Props to those players for staying 4 and 5 years to fully develop, but we have yet to see an O line work really well in unison. Like i said, Burrow and CEH covered up a lot of imperfections in that O line last year. I'm not sure how they won that award tbh.

Could probably fix that with recruiting better. If the O line haul for the 2021 class ends up being poor, it might be time for a change.

The improvement from 2018 to 2019 kind of disproves your argument...IMHO

So the man who coached the best offensive line in the country last year went to bed and woke up stupid. You kids need to actually grow up and hold a job for a while and find out what kind of pressure exists in the real world. He is a good coach with a new group who are still learning and growing. Get a life.

It’s been a hot mess this year but having a true freshman QB has really made it look even worse. The fact that the starting center is a Harvard transfer that never played center in his career is very telling about the lack of talent on this years OL. Outside of Ingram I don’t see one NFL prospect on the line. I’m willing to give Gregg a pass this year but the guys they signed last couple of years need to develop quickly and he needs to sign Leigh and a guard that can play as freshman.

He probably did read it. It's just such an asinine statement that he ignored it.

Agreed

The OL struggled in 18 and struggling in 20

People will point to 19 and winning the Joe Moore award. If not for Brady, Clyde and Joe...they don’t even sniff the award. They deserved the award about as much as Grant Delpit winning the Jim Thorpe. They struggled in every game last year. How many times or games did Joe bail the OL out last year?

Go back and watch the games. Joe was under duress in damn near every game! If not for Joe scrambling his arse off, Clyde spinning off tackles in backfield and Brady scheme, that OL gets exposed.

But but but, this guy is in the NFL...there’s a shite ton of guys in the nfl tgat played on shite teams, shite personnel units...there’s a ton of guys in the nfl that didn’t do shite while at LSU, so what’s your point?

He really didn’t. We just had an amazing offense around it. Rewatch those games and look how many times CEH and Burrow evaded rush.

I think advanced stats didn’t have them in the top 50.

This is why it is called the rant. Anyone can say anything with absolutely no basis of fact.

We can see the plays called and criticize Ensminger. What we don't necessarily see is if a player whiffed on his assignment and a play that worked in practice blows up in a game. So now Ensminger doesn't know what he's doing.

Same with Cregg.

These coaches forgot more than the Ranters will ever know about football and now they're stupid.

UGH....

So, let me get this right. 3 OL get drafted to the NFL. 2 are starters. You need a refresher on last year.
While Burrow faced pressure at times, you are being overdramatic thinking the OL didn't block their asses off. "Call a spade a spade..." we don't win the NC without that line which will have 2 other guys drafted this year. It was strength that allowed sets to be empty and picked up blitzes.

Current line rolls out a transfer, a converted DL and a LT that is often suspended (and his backup that should never touch the field unless up by 30). Deculus and Ingram are the only viable players on the line. Freshman rarely play here and I'm not sure why. I would hope that if they were ready that they could beat out 2-3 guys we continue to run out there.
