Great athletes all share that trait. Bregman would call managers at all hours of the night to let him into the baseball facility for extra BP

These guys were all

1. touched by the athletic Gods
2. Possessed a maniacal work ethic

You've gotta have both to be truly great

I agree with you on this. I hope at least some of our current WR's put in the extra work needed to become great and get that fat paycheck in the end. I'd love to see some circus catches this year.

I’ve never seen someone so infatuated with jug machines. It’s kind of weird at this point

The ESPN article clearly shows 2 guys higher on the Jugs than I am - Odell and Jarvis.

And If LSU is going to be a playoff contender with the Spread/RPO, they can't have the drop problem they showed last season, then showed again in the Spring game.

Every WR and RB could easily get 20,000 reps in before the Texas game. Drops of "strike zone" passes would be cut to almost nothing.

Right now, drops of "strike zone" passes are horrendously bad for a playoff contender. (For a mediocre passing team, they're just fine)

Yea they wrote this one time. Not continually post about the same thing. That’s the point.

This is a completely different angle on a serious deficiency in LSUs passing game.

And if subjects weren't revisited on the Rant, there would be little to discuss in the off-season. You don't like the subject - don't read it.

Too damn many drops in the Spring game. So, so so easily remedied with daily reps.

I'd argue that drops are due overwhelmingly due to bad hands.

Now yes, a lot of practice (with or without a Jugs machine) certainly can help, but it's not magic.

Players are gifted with skills - some are fast, some are strong, some have great hands, etc. Practice can maximize those skills, but they can't create them.

If that was the case, then every receiver in the world who spend a ton of time on the jugs machine would be an OBJ or a Jarvis Landry.

But that's not reality.

Nope. Not magic. Most golf hacks cant hit sand shots. But, any golfer with basic eye/hand coordination can do it. Hit 100 sand shots a day for 120 days and any coordinated person can make that shot an asset instead of a liability.

I'm a huge Brady fan, but I saw zero improvement in hands at the Spring game. That shite could easily cost LSU a couple games in 2019. And SO damn easy to fix... put the WRs on a schedule - an hour a day getting 100 to 200 reps.

Probably has to be done by S&C in the off-season.

Why are you wasting this expert advice on here? Get in contact with Brady and let him know.

If enough others agree that it is a sound idea, it will find its way to the right people.

again - merely practicing a lot doesn't automatically turn a guy with bad hands into a guy with good hands. It just doesn't work that way.

Just like having a bad shooter practice free throws 1000 times a day. Sure, he'll get better, but it won't mean he'll shoot 80% from the FT line.

Athletes are limited in their abilities. Practice maximizes what they can do, but there's a limit to their natural ability.

Just like if I hit 1000 drives all day, every day. I would surely improve, but I'd never become elite - because I have a limit to my physical (and mental) ability to hit a golf ball.

If all it took was the jugs machine, then EVERY SINGLE RECEIVER in the country would be elite.

Just not the way it works in the real world.

Not talking about elite. We're talking about WR's dropping balls thrown dead in the "strike zone".

THAT is an easy fix with high reps (for most guys). But, if a WR is still dropping beachball catches after 3000 or 4000 reps... then Next Man Up.

So you're saying LSU WRs are plenty good enough as they are?

He's saying that, at the end of the day, you are what you are.

If all it took was a jugs machine(which you seem unhealthily infatuated with) to learn how to catch, then everyone could do it.

That's not the case. Talent matters.

OBJ and Jarvis are great receivers mostly because they were born that way. They kept their heads on straight and didn't screw up. The jugs machine didn't make them; it was the icing on the cake.

@Buckeye I read through this entire thread and it took me a minute to pickup on the disdain for your idea. I don't get it though. Actual football fans are suggesting that practicing a part of your craft as a football player won't result in an athlete being better at his craft. It is silly to suggest that a receiver won't get better at catching footballs by taking more reps catching footballs. That is all.

These guys are clueless. But it is fun to watch them puff up their chests and STRUT their ignorance for all to see. LOL

Serious question: Are you intentionally missing the point?

If not, the conversation isn’t whether a Jugs can make EVERY player elite; the conversation is whether a Jugs can increase the amount of practice players get doing something they currently struggle with and whether they would then improve.

With increased practice, hands get better. This really isn’t debatable.

Exactly.

Some WRs could live with the damn jugs machine and not come close to catching the way OBJ can. Jugs machines can't change hand size.

People aren't saying you won't get better with use of a Jugs machine. They're saying the problem with our guys may go beyond access to a Jugs machine.

Exactly.

And 95% of a WRs assignments are blocking and route running with no reception. A WR gets maybe 10 to 15 catches in an average practice - sometimes less.

A big question would be who limited the Jugs machine use when Beckham and Landry were there? Are they still working for the program?
