Rewatching the game, and I must say JJ looked fast as frick in that game. When he decides to run and doesn't dance around trying to be a hero, he really can get it going. I am a huge nega-JJ, but he might actually be really good if he learned to throw consistently IMO

JJ is very athletic. I think I saw where he has the second highest vertical on the team, like 40 inches. Thats fairly explosive!

+1. and my fricks are pretty fast.

per the other poster re:Big 12 being slow. I didn't think of that, but you could be right.

He's got straight line speed and a long stride, but doesn't move horizontally very well.

Observation on Jefferson

he is a pretty descent qb when he has time to throw

i may get a lot of criticism for this but...
if JJ has a descent amount of time to throw, he can lead us to the NC next year

He did look better running. But he isn't a running QB. The coaches have been trying to make him one when they realised his passing is so hot and cold. The worst part is that we have one of the best running QB's playing reciever because he wasn't given a chance at QB.

He ran a 4.6 forty before the season. That's pretty fast for a QB.

seems like they did a little work on his internal clock during bowl practice...

They used the middle of the field, made the defense think about defending the long ball, and used the run to set up playaction.

It was a huge difference in scheme.

yea, getting rid of the multi-read, 4-5 wide stuff was a big benefit. and when you can run it really opens up the play action, which is why I think Crowton was either not running the offense, or told to cut all the spread and option stuff out.

I also like the higher tempo.

We take so long at the line of scrimmage that it gives the defense time to set up and prepare for the play.

JJ figuring out that he is a runner is the best thing that ever happened to him. I think we all remember how tentative he was running the option his first 2 years. His legs are going to be his biggest weapons in beating out Mett. If JJ throws for 175 and runs for another 75, LSUs offense will be just fine.

I don't know what to think of him. One game does not do much for me. I will base my judgments off what he can do against Oregon next season.

Turf fields help players run faster than they appear. He is still a fast player, but I think the turf helped him a little bit.

According to Matt Moscona, JJ said he had "prepared more of this game than ever before." Don't know if the extra weeks helped him or he finally got the fire under his butt to realize he needs to salvage something out of this season.
