And this right here is the problem with having Ensminger as OC. You don’t run plays because they worked last year.

I’m having trouble keeping up with tRant’s stance on offensive play calling. Have we moved on from complaining that Ensminger isn’t running last year’s offense, to now complaining that he is?

Could you IMAGINE the shite this coaching staff would’ve gotten if they lined up in I formation on the goal line and it didn’t work

Just once, I would like to hear Fritzie call after a loss and chew his arse out.

Then an audible within the “look at me” format would’ve been more appropriate.

That was my other thought as well.

The Scoreboard would have shut down.

I would have been ok with the call. There's just no way Mizzou missing it's top d-linemen should be able to stuff TDP from the 1.

That’s what pisses me off the most. They had multiple chances to fix their frick up. I truly believe that they thought it was ok that he was running that route in that spot and that’s what bothers me the most

We hang 41 points on opponents in back to back weeks and people are still blaming the offense.

If that different play involved utilizing the TE, then it wouldn't matter since all eyes still are on him because he was conspicuously subbed.

If that different play did not involve utilizing the TE, then there was no need to call a TO and sub him to begin with.

So, no.

Yeah, I said that in one of the score board threads - can’t remember which game but someone was wondering why we didn’t line up in I-formation.

Ultimately the coaches get graded on what works. And not scoring from the 1 yard line is a clear failure. I just find it amusing how everyone is 100% certain of the reason whenever there’s a bad series, but they all give different reasons:
- Because Ensminger.
- Because Linehan.
- We are back to running the 2018 offense.
- We are running the same shite from 2019.
- Myles can’t run.
- Shoulda ran a QB sneak.
- Shouldn’t run when we know the OL can’t block.
- Need to run the ball more to get in a rhythm.
- WR rotation is broken, [insert McMath/Moore/Jenkins/Boutte/Kirklin] should be on the field for every play.
- RB rotation is broken, [insert TDP/Emery] should get the majority of touches.

Everyone is certain the flaw they see is obvious to everyone else, though.

Come on, man. Teams call time out all the time then call a different play and sub to a different package if they don't like the look. We didn't even have to bring in Gilbert for the new play.

Now I agree with some of those.

1) a qb sneak should’ve definitely been tried.

2) I hate the random arse substitutions at WR. Find your dudes ( I don’t give a shite who they are) and let them eat

3) see #2 but add the running backs

I was really disappointed that we didn’t have 2 plays called when TDP got stuffed at the goal line. We ran the same play twice because we didn’t have time to get another play in. Coming out of a stopped clock situation Brennan should’ve went to the line with a minimum of 2 plays ready to call back to back. That was my biggest gripe at the goal line. I thought the 3rd and 4th down play calling was fine.

The offense went 0-10 on 3rd Down. The defense might as well not even show up, but that doesn't mean the offense isn't a little bit concerning.

That was an elite difficulty catch for a wideout. The only player on our team to have ever made such a catch in a game is Marshall, and the two I’m thinking of (Auburn and Clemson) were 1 on 1. Carter was between two defenders.

Maybe they thought the fullback wouldn’t get much attention downfield; MB shouldn’t have thrown to him with that coverage.

The offense has some issues. I would strip Linehan of his play calling duties immediately and we need to do a better of job of establishing the running game, but 41 points should be enough to win any given week if your defense is even below average as opposed to a total cluster frick.

I mean, I don’t know how anyone could not agree with some of those. That’s kind of my point though.

I don’t love running the same play twice, but I’m not convinced it was entirely due to the time left on the clock. Ensminger loves to run tempo out of nowhere to try and catch the defense sleeping and we’ve run the same zone play back to back on many occasions before. In this case though, I actually think it backfired because the clock was ticking, so the defense knew we had to get to the line and snap it.

I would guess they’ve got an alternate call up their sleeve where they fake the handoff on the second play and throw the ball. But I would also guess that the coaches thought we could get 1 yard in 2 plays with 230 lb. TDP.

It isn’t Carter’s fault he never should be put in that position. If you aren’t going to have Gilbert on the field for whatever reason and decide to call that play with the TE then you take your chances and put Kole Taylor in the game freshman or not. He’s 6’7” and a more talented receiver than Carter ever will be. This is all stupid to speculate about though because there’s no reason for Gilbert to not be in there for that call and if he was hurt then you call another play that doesn’t require a fullback run a 20 yard seam route. That’s on the coaches not the player.

Unfortunately Joe is gone. Why is O even bringing him up to compare? This is Brennan's team now.

Successful programs that sustain success move forward and do not look in the rear view mirror dwelling on the past. New players, new team. Adjust and adapt.

Didnt Brady write up new rz plays throughout the season?

He literally stated on record that he would watch Saints games on Sunday/Monday and during the week would run plays they scored touchdowns on and add them to the playbook for that week.
