I'm just waiting (waiting!!) for Nuss to run a bootleg, especially on a 3rd and short. He could walk for 10 yards. And it would keep the defense honest.

Reminds me of J Lee. Falls backward on throws.

Nah, Lee went backwards because he was terrified of getting hit. It had nothing to do with him trusting his arm strength, because he didn’t have enough to get away with some of the throws Nuss does. Nuss doesn’t drift backwards as much as he sprints. I don’t know if there’s no pocket for him to step up into (haven’t paid much attention) or if he’s just more comfortable from back there and trusts his arm and accuracy to make strong, accurate throws. And so far he’s been great at it. But it’s not sustainable. Once SEC DCs with better corners get more film on him and figure out his tendencies, they’re gonna start baiting him into those throws and the DBs will jump the routes. I predicted he’d throw a few pick 6s because of this. But you can live with a couple of those through the season. Take the bad with the extremely good. I didn’t expect him to throw pick 6s into triple coverage from the red zone.

BUT, like I said earlier, I’m glad he made these mistakes early and in a win. He’ll get coached up and do a much better job of that moving forward. He’s old (relatively for a 1st year starter) and hasn’t played a lot of real-game football since his SR year in high school. The more he plays, the more he sees, the more comfortable he’ll get getting in the rhythm of playing every week, the better he’ll get, and I think he’ll be playing his best ball by the end of the year.

Got his 1st road win on the road. Nice milestone. He got his 1st SEC victory. Another milestone. Let’s just hope he doesn’t throw a stinker out there against a good team that causes us to lose so he can continue to build confidence. But Sloan/BK aren’t making it any easier on him. I was really surprised that they couldn’t scheme some more of our WRs open for some easy reads and explosive plays. Any good OC should be able to do that at least a couple of times a game with our WRs. We had 1 to Taylor for a TD.

The OL and running backs hadn’t done him any favors the 1st 2 games until they finally went to Durham. He makes us soooo much better by keeping us ahead of the chains, and makes it easier on Sloan because it opens up the playbook, which will all help Nuss. He shouldn’t have to thread a needle into a tight window as often as he has been, relying on his velocity and accuracy. He can’t be expected to make some of the results throws he’s made to keep drives alive.

And I’m convinced he’s being told not to run on RPOs or pull it on inside zones, because they are terrified of him getting hurt and know the season is over if he goes down. But scared money don’t make money. It’s low risk for him to pull it and keep it around the edge a couple times a game, but high reward. And for the love of God, we’ve got to use more play action.

LOL. JD was dogshite against Florida State last year, in year 5 as a starter. He hasn't even started 5 games yet. He has also played 2 pretty good defenses compared to a lot of teams that have not, yet, he is still among the top in a lot of categories....pretty damn good for a guy who has started only 4 games, and he will only get much better with experience. He will be an NFL QB for a long time....bookmark it.

I have to say, race baiting has become an interesting defense mechanism. Almost like you are trying to mask how he almost threw the game away multiple times yesterday

He’s better than two QB’s taken in first round last year. Fact.

Another thing I was worried about going into the season was us getting down early, especially on the road, and him pressing and throwing some bad picks and let the game get away. He was just the opposite yesterday. Remained calm and lead 2 2nd quarter TD drives to keep us in the game, including a couple of unbelievably difficult throws to keep them going. He had a lot more good than bad yesterday, the bad was just REALLY bad and at terrible times in the game. But we didn’t give up, caught some big breaks, and he/we wound up taking advantage of them and escaped with the dub.

I just hope we can figure out how to win some of these games more comfortably. Because no matter how well he’s playing, those interception demons are always gonna be in the back of my mind during crunch time. But as long as they’re not in his, we’ll be fine. I still don’t have a good handle on what the ceiling or floor is of this team yet. And we won’t find out for 4 weeks against Ole Miss. HUGE opportunity for Nuss to break out on the national scene and get a big win in Tiger Stadium against a top 5 team in a prime time night game in Tiger Stadium.

I guess Saban and Herstreit are wrong, and Lester is right, because they think he is special. His stats are phenomenal for a 4 game starter, especially playing a couple good defenses.

Yesterday was probably his “worst” outing as a starter, but also the best defense he’s faced as a starter. Seems like that’s the first time he’s really been pressured consistently (can’t remember how UGA played in the second half of the SECCG).

It should have given him a lot to learn from, and I think he will. His ball security had already improved quite a bit, and I think the couple of bad decisions yesterday (throwing a pick instead of taking the sack on the horse collar probably being the worst) can be corrected fairly easily. I do wish he wouldn’t throw off his back foot so much, though.

The good is really good. His ability to hit guys in stride on the deep ball is fantastic. He clearly has a ton of confidence and doesn’t seem to let any mistakes or misfortune get to him. We seemed to be using the entire field.

He’s only going to get better from here. I just hope we can finally start putting together a decent running game so that we aren’t so one-dimensional. Being able to use the short passing game as an extension of your running game is great, but puts a ton of pressure on your QBs and WRs to be perfect. If we can get better on the ground I think this offense will be pretty explosive.

He sure wasn’t great. He got extremely lucky to be bailed out on those horrendous pick six throws. He’s got to stop throwing off his back foot falling away.

He got bailed out big time by that personal foul

That was just a horrendous decision and a god awful throw that should have sealed the game for SC.

But, sometimes you get lucky and live to fight another day

Didn’t realize that he had that kind of completion rate….that’s stellar!

He's phoning it in. He had a 83 percent completion rate at halftime against USC.

But yeah. 70 is good. Didn't Burrow break the all time CFB season record with like 72 percent?

Seriously though. didn't we have like 9 years where we didn't have a QB who had 60+ completion % for a season?
