You are not required to pay it any attention.

Why would you want to get rid of something the players enjoy doing?
This is the kinda thing that make sports fun the players take pride in it so I like it myself and like seeing who the team thinks are the leaders.

fricking old people crying about everything.

It helps in recruiting. It’s staying. Get off over it and stop caring about numbers like a grown up.

You need to go

7 should be given to the best DB on the team and handed down by the DB currently wearing it

I'm not sure why it would bother one that much. Just don't read about it if you don't want to. The number is getting worn whether it was handed down in a special ceremony or just picked by a new freshman. It has 0 effect on anything, other than being an honor for the new recipient.

They're just jersey numbers. Some people will complain about anything

I think the number 7 and 18 both teaches leadership and holds the player wearing it to a high standard. It also pushes younger players to be the kind of leader to want to wear it and lead their team and the younger players when they become upperclassmen.

I coach High school football, and its getting harder and harder to find true leaders now days. with the way society is going our youth just want you to hand it to them on a silver platter rather than working hard and leading by example.

Disagreed, should go to the most elite. Whether that be at WR, RB, LB, QB, or DB.

Imagine a QB trotting on the field with the #7. How badass that would be
