Front page news I know. Only been 2 weeks but I think that’s the type of dominance/potential we’ve all envisioned under Lane.

Number 1 Total Defense

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 1st string defense has only given up 3 pts - off a gimmie FG.

Yep Clemson got the interception and gained 6 yards on that drive then kicked a 49 yard FG. If it wasn’t for the turnover. The 1st team defense would have given up 0 points this season.

Well, someone's got to be #1. Might as well be us!

May not have been the full first team, but I notice #7 Weeks in on the touchdown Tech scored, so not like it was the scout team or anything... Still an incredible defensive effort so far this season. Hope they can keep it up in Oxford!

Correct.

1st team defense has played 3 quarters each game and essentially given up 0 points.

I want to preface this by saying these numbers could be slightly off, just going off memory, but it's definitely in the ballpark but...

Best I can tell, the 1st team defense gave up 73 yards to Clemson and 33 yards to LA Tech, so 106 yards total through 6 quarters.

There were about 9 backups in on that play. None of the secondary, which blew the coverage, were starters.

To contrast, Ole Miss: 39th total offense, 109th total defense, which is last in the SEC.

This is why I'm not overly concerned about the offensive struggles (really more inconsistencies). LSU's defense has been dominant. Yes, Clemson offense does look to be particularly good, and La Tech is step down in competition, but other major conference teams have played (collectively) WROSE competition and not been as dominant as LSU. LSU's first team defense did not allow a 1st down by Tech until the 3rd quarter...and that was only by way of a questionable PI penalty. It only allowed 2 first downs by Clemson.

LSU's defense give the offense a LARGE margin for error, and there is no reason to think Lane won't put together a great offense...even if there have been some struggles at OL and QB.
