Noticed a blatant mistake by the refs while watching the replay.

Just noticed this one in case any one is interested.

At 9:07 in the first period, on 2nd and 10 from the Auburn 38, we threw a screen pass to CEH who caught it one handed and picked up a first down. Lewis was flagged for a chop block more that 5 yards downfield and given a 10 yard penalty from the spot of the foul. He was at the 32 yardline (6 yards downfield). The ball should have been spotted at the 42 for 2nd and 14. Instead it was spotted at the 46 for 2nd and 18.

That was a pretty significant frick up. 2nd and 18 is much harder to convert than 2nd and 14.

Chop block penalities are 15 yard penalties from the spot of the foul.

Thanks. The ref called it 10 yards. He misspoke.

They talked about it on air. Kinda mumbled that it was a bad call. The DL wasn't being engaged by another O-Lineman, so the block was legal.

Actually there's a recent rule that you can't chop block once you are 5 yards past the line of scrimmage (which seems pretty stupid). So it was a fair call of a rule that seems a little stupid.

But when it was called the ref said 10 yards from the spot of the foul and we got backed up 15. The penalty should be 15. So the ref just misspoke.

Chop blocking is never legal.

The rule is about cut blocking past 5 yards.

Sorry for my lack of verbal precision.

How about the leverage on Auburn on the last FG. Auburn dude did come down right on his head though.

How about the fact the defender wasn’t even touched on the play?

so is cut blocking past 5 yards a 10 or 15 yard penalty? either one seems too harsh.

Auburn fans are going to bitch and moan but there were a shite load of calls that went each way. I have no idea why they’re complaining about the 2 pass interference calls. I’ll hear an argument that 1st one was holding, not PI but that’s still an automatic 1st down.

The 2nd one the DB is literally holding Jefferson’s arm down.

Bunch of pussys.

No. 77 for Auburn was holding No. 91 for LSU the entire game.

The significance is the lack of competence of these refs and replay officials. It's a joke. These people have no idea what they are doing and every game make bad calls and don't get calls right, even with replay.

I was unimpressed with the accuracy of that officiating crew. But they did call an impartial crappy game.

The Aubies lost by one on the last play. They believe all the O hate, and thought themselves better athletes. They obviously concluded that the refs gave the game away.

I actually like this butt hurt better since the bitterness makes for sweater tears!

There were enough to go around both ways I that that evened out. But I know complaining about the refs is a fans favorite pastime. Believe me, it's going on with the Auburn board just like this.

I always say the same thing about officiating in every sport, I don’t care if they are bad they just need to be consistent. We’ve had plenty of games with horrible SEC officiating in the state of Alabama, we’ve never had bad refs that called crap both ways.

Chop and cut blocks are 15 yard penalties aren’t they?

The number of penalties that were missed, considering there were 18 called, was comical.

SEC refs are a bit of a joke.
