If he didn’t wear 2 sliding mitts I’d think he was pretty good at baseball.

Crews chased bad pitches a little more as a freshmen, and who could blame him with his talent. Curiel is just more selective and willing to go the other way more. Obviously crews was the best freshmen ever, but this is a close second

It’s one thing to be good. It’s another thing to be confident. And it’s another thing to have a calmness about it all.

He appears to have all of that. Smooth young man.

Just four years ago Dylan Crews posted a 163 wRC+ through a full freshman season

Curiel is at 149

How quickly people forget

Milan is a stud in his own right but this guy Curiel has the look of a big time major leaguer one day. And All SEC for minimum 3 years kind of guy.

Too bad he’s only gonna be All SEC for 2 years.

He’s a draft eligible sophomore. If he plays like this next season but is able to develop some power, he’s gonna be a top 5 pick.

Todd Walker had a different skill level from anyone, yes.

But this dude brings the Walker vibes and coolness and it spreads to the team.

I would add Brett Laxton to the conversation…freshman in 1993…12-1, 1.98 ERA. Oh, and SIXTEEN K’s in the National Championship game. That kid had balls of titanium.

I don’t know about all of these comparisons with players of the past, but Curiel just looks to me like every bit the part of a MLB player.

If that kid lead off for the Dodgers or Cubs you wouldnt think twice about it. And you are not getting him out with a few pitches and does not allow opposing pitcher to get in a rhythm.

I love Curiel, and everything about his game. I constantly say how incredibly poised, mature, and disciplined his game is

But… Todd Walker was phenomenal, and was the best player on the team, as a freshman.

Walker finished the season with a .400 BA, 100 hits, 76 RBI, 72 runs, 12 Home Runs, a slugging % of .652

Was 1st in the SEC in 1992 in RBI, Runs, and total bases.

I hope Curiel has a better season than Walker, but let’s

His 10 pitch walk at bat to open the game set the tone that LSU was focused. That was a big league at bat in his first SEC road game.
