I once asked a former pro player I half-arse know this and he said that Manieri hasnt adjusted to significant philosophical changes in the way baseball is played and coached over the last decade.

He didnt really elaborate, but think "Les Miles coaching fullback dive plays in the age of spread". That sort of thing.

But, if you believe that, then nobody has "passed" LSU's elite level...LSU has just fallen below them.

I do.

Vandy felt so good about their pitching depth this year that they convinced a guy to graduate early to play for them.

And then, when he was about to make his first SEC start, they banged the game and blamed the weather. Too much rain for their turf field to handle apparently.

After Leiter and Rocker, their pitching is very pedestrian.

And they've had a lot of positional recruiting misses the last few years as well.

Arkansas was 7-23 in the SEC and had a losing overall record in 2016

Not here to start shite...but that season you point out is the only season in DVH's 19 years at Arkansas that the Hogs missed the post season.

I thought Arkansas was headed for a down year this season the way they were working the transfer portal in the offseason. It felt like they didn't trust what they had coming back.

But frick, they hit on every JUCO position player they brought in.

Scratch my head that other D1 programs didnt hit the JUCO ranks so hard this past year knowing the MLB draft was only 5 rounds.

Slavens was JUCO POY in 2020 and has been a power addition on offense. Kid hit 14 HRs in the Covid shortened season last year at JUCO. Battles at SS is likely the best SS we have had under DVH IMO. Mediocre offense, but very solid and reliable in the field.

Those two are only at Arkansas because of the short draft.

That was only to show that even good programs have random years of being complete shite. We haven't had a season like this since pre-Skip Bertman (or maybe Mainieri's first season) and still have a shot at finishing with a 15-15 record in the SEC. This isn't to defend LSU's season or that Mainieri's tenure needs to end at this point, but rather to say one season like this doesn't mean all these other schools have passed LSU as a program

The ONLY REASON we made that Omaha run in 2017, was because Oregon state sat their ace for hooking up with minor when he was 18. Their 2nd best guy murdered us their 3rd guy won the 2nd game. We got lucky plain and simple.

Well, actually I think that LSU was worse last year than this year. So we are likely looking at an upward trend this year, as bad as it is.

Here is another one who forgets to mention that we lost Walker in the 2nd inning and faced the guy who murdered us in the third game and knocked him out in the 2nd inning.
If you're doing what if's, do it for everyone.

We also shelled that same guy the next time we played him. I could also just as easily say they murdered us the first game because Walker went out in the 2nd inning. We also only gave up 1 run in each of our next two games against them. We gave 14-0 Thompson his first loss of the season in the first game, and Fehmel only lasted 2.1 innings in the second (he was the guy who started our first game against them).

They only beat us once so how did their second best guy murder us and their 3rd guy beat us too?

No we didnt't. If anything, we were very unlucky that Walker went out which was a killer to our pitching rotation once we got to the title series

Heimlich would have pitched against Cal St Fullerton in their opening round game. Then we would have gotten Thompson in our game instead of Fehmel (we lost anyways). We then may have faced Heimlich in our next game with them, on 5 days rest, against Alex Lange who gave up 2 hits and 1 run in 7.1 innings.

Paul doesn’t recruit. So he’s had to have a dedicated recruiter as one of his paid coaches. For a number of years, he relied on unqualified former players to be his hitting coach.

him not recruiting is one thing. But he knows little to nothing about his roster each year.
