The real crack down on alcohol in the student section happened some time in the mid 90's. A cheerleader was struck in the head with a pint bottle. I vaguely remember an article in the Reveille stating the administration had had enough. The pat downs and searches were ridiculous for the very next home game. Anyone else remember that? I can't remember the exact year.

It took A LOT of alcohol to make it through a game in the early/mid 90's, we sucked.

It takes about half an hour to get in the stadium sometimes, it's ridiculous. I just want some whiskey with my coke at the game.

It is time for the University to do one of two things: subject all Tiger Stadium visitors to the same treatment as the students, or overhaul their prison-like tactics at Gate 7 and treat students with the same respect as everyone else. It's only fair.

They changed it to the Saints security contractor for the final 2 games.

BRPD/LSUPD could not handle the students. They were rude, physical, threatened arrest, etc.

I was close to skipping the 1st game last year after waiting in line for over an hour, getting near the gate, and then the police decided to change the barricade set up right then. Everyone in the right side was physically forced to the back of the line.

A student government person let me through another gate while we were watching cops make asses of themselves

I also read in the WSJ the other day that student attendance at LSU and other major schools is suffering. I wonder why ...

Would that still be true if the students weren't searched?
This. I was at LSU long before such "draconian" tactics were employed, and the conduct in the student section then was far, FAR more unruly than I have experienced anywhere else in the stadium at any time in the last 40+ years. Of course, back when I was in the student section, the fact that it was unruly was considered a good thing . . .

not because of the security checks.

If you dont realize College Football has turned into a Social event more than a sport event, idk what to tell you. Now every student tries to get student tickets to say they have them, even if they dont plan on going.

I was one of the people forced out. Some cop grabbed me by the shoulder and threw me out of the line, I just walked back in. They were such little punks that game, I bet there were a lot of arrests.

well 25 years ago a coach could pile his little league baseball team in the back of his pickup to bring and get pizza after a game without getting pulled over and arrested for child endangerment.....

Times have changed.

Like I said, they already changed it at the end of last year.

It wasn't any different of an experience. I'm glad I'm not going through SS lines anymore. No one should be treated like that, especially the people who actually make up the university.

My favorite was when the cop grabbed my gf at the time (now wife) by the wrist and yanked her back

A lot of them actually did not have the authority to arrest students at the game which made it even more ridiculous. We weren't going to the game until the lady came and asked us if we wanted to come through a different gate. Went back at halftime to get priority points

Some girl got hurt pretty badly and they had to bring a cart for her.

I also wasn't allowed in the stadium for the 2010 Tenn game b/c they said I wasn't a full-time student. I pulled up my schedule right there and the cop said he didn't care.

I ended up paying $100 for another ticket, going to my seat and the same cop tried to throw me out the game. Got refunded the $12 from the ticket office though.

And some people say the pussification of America isn't real

Most people who drink at games don't cause problems. If they do, then I have no problem with throwing them out. But most college kids, regardless of age, can handle a little booze at a game.

I was there from 03-07 and never got searched, or patted down, either. Although, it helps that no one ever suspects the handicapped guy of doing anything bad. Pity, and sympathy, work well some times.
