Exactly. Anyone who supports this knows nothing about unions and the strain it puts on businesses/programs. My gosh just look at what teacher's unions have turned the department of education into

In general, unions have done more good than bad. Not sure how anyone could be confused about that. Lots of the top one percent have many southerners convinced otherwise. Not sure why anyone would buy it, but you sure have

Part of me is glad they are doing this. It is time for the damn NFL to form a minor league system for the young men that don't give a damn about the educational opportunities at college. imo, they have a right to work and make a living and the NFL will not let them in now.

college football will survive; it's gotten too big anyway. Ticket prices will go down and so will salaries of coaches and more folks will be able to afford to go to the games. maybe it would be like, entertainment for the people that actually care about the college.

It's a LABOR board and these players are not employees of the school.

that was the whole point of the hearing, though, and the NLRB actually ruled the players should, in fact, be viewed as employees based on the amount of time they are required to be at team activities compared to those involving academics. what's interesting is that now they're viewed as employees, will their scholarships and other luxuries be viewed as taxable income.

I understand that at the time unions were necessary, but today's unions are completely unnecessary do more harm than good. But yes, back in the day unions absolutely were beneficial, but now it's nothing but diminished returns.

Tuition isn't enough "payment" for the punishment their bodies take imo.

this argument, both at the nfl and the college level, is getting so old. players are very well aware what the game of football can do to their bodies. no one is forcing them to play.

Then each player should decide that. If they feel the payoff isn't enough they are welcome to sit out playing college ball.

well, maybe the time for unions again. but in a different form. the working man can't make a middle class living anymore while the upper are making more than ever. the problem as I see it is greed has taken over and the little guy is screwed. BUT, the unions had been taken over (not all) by thugs and they went too far. we need quality labor, quality craftsmen. what we are getting is illegal wetbacks that are semi skilled and put our American boys out of work. a union run the right way provides training and apprenticeship and a better quality worker. what needs to be buried is the "old rules" that protected the shitty union worker. unions killed themselves by allowing this and now the business owner hires mex's and simply sales an inferior product. my house here in Tejas is the shoddiest house I've ever owned and it was built 100% by men that disappeared in the woods ever time a black SUV entered the subdivision.

Or they can choose to do what they're doing and ask for a "raise". YOU can choose to watch...or not.

Football players get far more than tuition.

This may end the "Student-athlete" charade though. Probably end college sports as we know it as well.

I haven't read this entire thread, so I apologize if redundant.

So a scholarship, coaching, trainers, medical treatment and therapy, access tonworld class facilities, nutritionist created meals, room and board, travel, hotels, restaurants, TV coverage , a platform to display the skills that the university is responsible for enhancing, access to huge fan bases and the benefits of fame even if only local for some is not compensation enough for a 105 man roster of individuals all receiving the same "package"?

I'd like to see a dollar amount on what all this is worth per player.

To an extent, I agree. Problem occurs in their absence, then they're needed...then they grow stagnant. Its a ridiculous see-saw effect. Having said that, we're better with them. I'm sure many places in the world would love to have it, including say Nike factories in 3rd world countries.

why would you include travel and hotels in this?

Is that really supposed to be a big benefit?

I never knew that when I travel for work that I'm actually on vacation

Two things.

The ticket prices are going up.

Does this mean that they could get more than 4 yrs of eligibility ?

You think playing football in college is work?

Did you play sports in high school? Was it work?

I played sports AND worked...two very different things.

Road trips are a blast for teams. Not always for work.

I don't post much but I have to chime in on this. College football is NOT a job, it IS an internship. You learn your craft with little in the way of compensation, but have the opportunity to be graded by people you will eventually get paid by if you make the cut.

Pretty sure it will. Schools can't afford it.
