i provided a link that showed revenues and expenses of every athletic department. most were either breaking even or losing money. i'd love to know where all the countless programs making millions every year are.

I can't point out the difference between the football team and athletic department any better than I already have.
A football program does not equal an athletic department.
Also, a CBA does not mean a universal pay rate

You're delusional if you think all sports will not get paid, and all schools will not be paying the same for each sport.
A separate pay rate would lead to the destruction of college football much faster than without it.

Or some colleges will pay players while others don't.
Not going to happen. What will happen eventually will be revenue sharing, which the schools carrying everyone else will find it's not worth it

Yes, this is an absolutely terrible development. If you turn college athletes into employees rather than students, you are taking a big step down the road of severing any meaningful tie between them and the University. Drop the idea (sometimes strained--but not always) that college athletes are students like the rest of us were/are, and college football quickly becomes about as popular as minor-league baseball.
And people need to get a clue when they spout off about all this money colleges are supposedly making from sports. Television networks and apparel manufacturers are making money, but not most schools. In fact, all but about twenty programs in America (LSU is one of the those rare exceptions) lose MILLIONS every year on their sports programs--and that's WITHOUT paying the athletes. If you increase those costs significantly, I guarantee you a lot of schools will drop sports as we know them.
This. In about 10 years college football will go the way of most
things that distinguish this country from others.

NLRB regional says college football players can form union
It will go to the full board. Northwestern says if it goes thru they will drop college football.

I understand that at the time unions were necessary, but today's unions are completely unnecessary do more harm than good. But yes, back in the day unions absolutely were beneficial, but now it's nothing but diminished returns.
What makes you think that business won't try to go back how things were before we had unions?

I would like to see the NFL and universities see their day of reckoning from this. First, the NFL has gotten a free ride from college football. They have a free minor league system and don't have to pay the millions it costs to develop talent. When you see a major baseball team you are seeing millions of cost in developing talent via minor leagues and instruction and health care costs.
Second universities are generating millions of dollars in revenue from college football. Even the schools that don't make money in college football still take in millions in revenue.
Third football is football. If hundreds of division II and III schools can have football and not drive the entire university bankrupt then division I can do it and not have to spend millions being a minor league system for the NFL.

OK, why shouldn't HS athletes be allowed to join a Union and get paid?
Sure they can. I have a construction labor job now. ENTITLED. This is what our society has come to. Don't you realize we OWE them.

It's very simple for me. If a decision is made to pay players there will be some good seats available in Tiger Stadium and Alex Box. I don't care how much seniority or how many priority points I've accrued, I'll quit immediately if this were to occur.

Same here. If it comes down to this, I will say frick college sports and simply watch the NFL.
I can't imagine that you and I are alone in that thinking either.

Plus at least three years of risking their health without compensation, whereby they can risk future earnings in pro football, while schools capitalize and make literally millions off of them?
LINK Don't know how to post a screenshot of this, so I just posted the link.

Educate me on the NLRB. Is this the national labor review board?
Posted on 3/27/14 at 7:17 am to Cajn_tiger_.blank
In my opinion this is a big push by labor unions to get membership up.

Looks "kids" have
Excellent strength and conditioning
Excellent personal trainers
Excellent athletic trainers
Access to supplements for free
An advantage in the class room
Free tutors
Coached that'll hold their hand making sure they perform in the classroom
Celebrity like status on campus
And they get a free ride to great colleges to play a game they love in front of thousands that would do anything to be in their shoes. frick that
Now, they should be aloud to market themselves as they please. Absolutely ridiculous they can't make a penny off their personal images.

According to the LA Times the legal fees for these players are being paid by the United Steelworkers Union.

According to nbcsports.com this ruling only pertains to private schools as public institutions fall under state jurisdiction.
