Why is it so important for some lsu fans that others "respect" saban or give him credit or whatever? What good does that do as an LSU fan now? And for the OP to basically discredit miles' recruiting by basically giving all credit to saban being here over 5 years ago is absolutely ridiculous.

yippeee....name the frickin' stadium after him. We won alot of games way before Saban showed up.

yep .. we were a whopping 3-8 the year before he got here, 4-7 the year before that ... we had won 10 games in a season only ONE time in 39 years before he got here ... and he did it TWICE ..

paul dietzel walked away from a similar LSU program in the 1960s to coach at Army ... you don't hear hatred toward him ..

I'm sure Dietzel wasn't welcomed back with open arms when he coached against LSU. Found this from another post:

quote:

In 1966, five years after Dietzel left LSU, he coached South Carolina against LSU in Tiger Stadium. According to Pete Finney's The Fighting Tigers, there was a huge buildup for that game throughout the offseason leading up to it, even though South Carolina wasn't even that good. LSU won the game 28-12, and Charles McClendon supposedly made some comment about finally getting that monkey off his back.

But the animosity between Dietzel and LSU fans is not there anymore because Dietzel isn't coaching a team that competes against LSU--much less one in the same division of the same conference. As with Saban, the animosity will likely be gone once he leaves Alabama.

That's just part of sports (to some extent) and being a fan. I strongly respect Saban as a coach. His resume is better than most and he is an elite head coach. However, he coaches for BAMA...you honestly expect people to like that? I appreciate everything he did while he was a Tiger and nothing will ever change that. However, he coaches for BAMA. LSU fans will never root for Bama...it's part of being an LSU fan.

I am a huge Drew Brees fan and I detest the Cowboys. If Brees signed with the Cowboys, I would hate him (while appreciating everything he did while in NO).

Loving your team and hating your rival is part of being a fan.

you've got to be intellegent enough to compartmentalize stuff ... sure, hate bama and everything around it all you want .. hell, hate their head coach too .. but that's one aspect of saban ... the other has to be the nick saban that once wore purple and gold ..

Dinardo got the ball rolling with recruiting and his classes were good but not great. He had some great players but little to no depth. Saban took recruiting to a whole new level which helped turn LSU into a national power. Miles has taken up on that and continued to recruit to keep LSU a national power.

Is lsu competing against Charlie mac and arnsbarger now? No. Why praise a guy that is lsu's direct competition. He doesn't give a shite about lsu today. Why praise him? It honestly doesn't make sense and most people that post shite like respecting saban and all that are the ones that hate miles and can't get past saban.

Isn't that what I just did? I stated that I appreciate everything he did while at LSU. I don't "not like him" for leaving LSU or even taking the job at Bama. I hate whoever Bama's head coach is, and that just happens to be Saban.

I think some LSU fans believe Saban left LSU for Alabama.... that may be part of the reason they "hate" him.... I mean do they "hate" Joker Phillips or Dan Mullen?
