If it came down to it they could put generators on site to handle Tiger Stadium.

it's not just this

it's being able to handle people getting in and out of the campus area, along with having the necessary police presence

I tell ya what...if they do play, Crowton needs to pour it on and try to score 100. The people of Baton Rouge could use some positive reinforcement.

on the contrary

I live in south BR, and have been without power since Monday, with a 6-month-old and a 3 year old. The baby can't take the heat very well. So I do have more important things to worry about.

My reason for posting this was...I'm frustrated that everyone doesn't seem to understand how bad the damage is, and how overwhelmed the crews appear to be. This is the second-worst power outage in Entergy's history. And YES, there is a decent chance that most of BR, including LSU, won't have power next week either.

You guys are right. I think they ought to postpone the entire LSU Football season indefinitely until every square inch of Ascension and Jefferson parish is in pristine working condition. Until Cocodrie is fully functional, we should probably all not want to see football games. I personally am not going to watch a single sporting event until I know everyone in Gonzales has electricity, a hot shower, and meal each evening. God bless everyone.

Dearest Rollie Fingers,
you know what...frick YOU! you are a fricking idiot, you were talking shite about this yesterday, and I see you're back again today to spew more bullshite.

Moving the game would have been the best option. Or maybe play the game and use the money to actually fix the town would be another viable option. Or just cancel the entire LSU football season because extensive damage to the previously well-oiled machines that are the cities of Brusly and White Castle.

i tried to tell people

i will say that a lot of this is due to BR's arrogance with hurricane preparation, however

A lady from Dallas called me concerning work yesterday, and she sounded very surprised when I told her I didn't have power in Baton Rouge. She then said, "I didn't even know Baton Rouge was in the path of the storm."

Could be, though my parents' apartment on Lee Drive got power back last night at about 8PM, so things in the area are being addressed.

I do sympathize with people affected by the storm, but it seems like there is no real urgency on anyone's part to correct the situation. Just postpone everything and wait till it all sorts out. Doesn't seem like a great strategy.

Not only that, but I think some people were willfully optimistic as to how powerful it would be. Someone people on this site treated the idea that we would have anything more than TS level winds, maybe a cat 1 gust or two, with scorn.

arrogance is to blame for widespread tree damage?

I am just saying if the had the game to prepare for, it might give people working an incentive and goal to reach and shoot for that could lead to a quicker resolution. Continued delays of everything sends a bad message in my opinion.

i remember arguing about LSU Ave and how that road pretty much is built to be a worst case scenario for a hurricane and the guy on the OT replied with how trimming the branches (which lie on the lines) would be ugly, and therefore not an option

you know you can remove trees that could become potential problems and trim back branches that are threats, right?

you can also avoid planting so many trees that could not sustain the winds that you'd receive in a hurricane

they're amazing concepts, i know

you do know that there exists routine tree maintenance for this very purpose (not just for hurricanes, but for strong storms as well)? Accusing BR residents of arrogance for not removing any tree which could, as a result of a hurricane, fall on to a power line is laughable. A better solution is underground power lines.
