To further my earlier point about Tubby raising the profile of LSU basketball...
Do you think Nick Saban would have left Michigan St to come to LSU after Curley Hallman? Heck no! We needed Gerry Dinardo to bring in some good recruits, get Tiger Stadium excited again, and get back to bowl games (and let Nick Saban see first hand what LSU could be). The program was much better off after Dinardo than when he took over.
Tubby can do that much.

The reports of Tubby Smith came from the CBS Sports guy that originally broke the news of Trent Johnson. The local radio guys just reported that.
What's the CBS Sports guy's name?
Link?

Recruits like Trent, recruits character first. Great man but if you can't win at UK !!
He is too old to relate to young recruits now, way past his prime.

Tubby Smith can do for our basketball team what Nick Saban did to our football team? Terrible comparison. This is like bringing in Ty Whittingham. Or maybe South Carolina bringing in Spurrior; and that's being generous.

Reading comprehension fail.
Tubby can do for our basketball team what Dinardo did for our football team. That is to get us back on track playing competitive basketball, and then whenever his tenure is up the job will be more attractive than when he arrived.

So you want to hire him with the expectation of having to eventually fire him? WTF?

Got ya. But it's still basketball. You don't have to build and build and build to turn things around. 2-3 recruits can completely change your team from one year to the next.

Why just hire a 61 year old. Let's bring Bobby Knight back or even dig up John Wooden. I'm know Dale Brown would endore JW.

Not my preference, but has John Calipari, Rick Pitino, or Billy Donvan returned Joe Alleva's call? The timing for this hire is terrible. I truly believe that Tubby Smith is about the best coach we can hope for right now, unless we lucked into some young up and comer. But that's a huge gamble.

Tubby is a fine coach, I am certain he will get the most out of the talent we have. He is that good an X&O guy.
But that is not our problem, our problem is lack of talent, Tubby was C+ type recruiter while at UK with all the advantages UK has in terms of recruiting.
What makes you think he will bring more talent to BR than Trent did?
We need a B+ or A type aggressive recruiter. Basketball is about 90% talent acquisition and about 10% XandO's.
Gotta assume if we hire him, he brings the dead weight that is his son as an assistant, fine gutty player at UK, but....just another patronage job.
2 Smiths for price of 3 prolly.
If we don't hire an balls to the wall energetic, aggressive staff of recruiters it won't matter much how good an X&O guy we hire. Can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh!t.
Tubby brings his son and that eliminates one potential good recruiter already.

do you guys really think LSU is a top notch college basketball job? NO. I'll bet alleva has been turned down/turned away at least 3 times.

I liked Tubby....10 years ago. He tried to clean up the Kentucky program and their fans never could accept that. They have no interest in that.
Clean up what?
You realize who he followed, right?
He did not clean up anything, he basically maintained what was handed and allowed it to level off down the end of his run at UK.

Just checked his record. Never had a winning record in Big 10 in five seasons.
His record also indicates his first 4 years were the best start i the school's history. It's Minnesota, not the hotbed of college basketball. He has been successful when you look at it objectively.

And how did he suck? Any real facts to back up that statement? Or is that just your opinion that is not based on facts?

One helluva hire circa 1991-2005(one of many former Tulsa Hurc Hoops and Foots HCs to springboard), but check out those conference W-L marks the last seven years, as he went from 53 yrs old to 61..
LSU Hoops needs more energy than he brings to the table, at this career juncture.

You guys can't have it both ways. Or can you? First he drove Kentucky in the ground. And he did nothing after Pitino's player left. Then the true facts are brought out that he was extremely successful at Kentucky. Then it's well anyone could do good at Kentucky.
