Our schedule will have little to no bearing on how SEC play goes. The team is what it is.

Yep. On the women’s side, I don’t get why Mulkey still doesn’t play quality teams despite having a contender each year.

Only 7 SEC teams have played more than 2 ranked teams:
UK, UF, AU, Ark, Bama, Vols, UT
Mizzou has played two.
Vandy is 12-0 and UGa is 11-1 but played zero ranked teams.

Tomato cans?
Is that really something people say? I don’t get that.

Well, in women’s basketball the best 4 or 5 teams seems to beat everybody by 30 to 50 points.

Never coached before, eh? With all the players changing teams every year, a lot of teams are comprised of players who have not played together vey much. Add in teams with a lot of young players & coaches use these games to develop team unity & cohesiveness. Same reasoning NFL & NBA teams have pre season games. .

Your brain is a tomato can.

I'd rather have four or five losses against good teams heading into league play than manhandling the Little Sisters of the Poor just for a W.
I used to have season tix in the Dale Brown yrs and there was normally a better grade of non conf opponents and top 10 or top 5 level. It seemed to me that after he left the focus was on getting 20 wins as a min no matter how you got them so you would make the tourney. That doesnt get there these days like it used to…

We all know the first half of the season means nothing. They need game time practice before the meat grinder. If they suck the second half the coach will be gone no matter what happens.

Doesn’t everybody schedule this way?
Posted on 12/23/25 at 1:28 pm to Keltic Tiger
I've actually coached a lot of basketball and even won a couple of championships. I can tell you first hand that playing a weak schedule doesn't help you because when the tough teams come around, the players don't know to compete in close games because they haven't been challenged.
I've coached a lot of football also, and parents always want to tell you about how their son was the star of their park ball team. They quickly learn that the level of competition at the local parks is nowhere near the MS and HS level and their son never sees the field.
The level of competition matters!

They are contenders every year because of that. Confidence building. Learning to play with a new group. She doesn't really care about winning an SEC championship. If she does, good. Her sight is a NC, not a bubble team.

I have no idea, but other teams still continue to play us !

where you need to replace games vs Clemson, USC and Florida State with North Alabama, West Georgia and Eastern Kentucky, according to many on this board.
Need and want are two different things. Everyone wants to play big games every week. We need to not to do that in order to make the playoffs. Hopefully, centralized scheduling will become a thing and a select group of power conference will only play each other.
But when that happens, be prepared for all of the small directional teams to bitch and moan they are broke when the rent-a-wins go away.

LSU did play TT but you cant just play one.
Posted on 12/23/25 at 3:09 pm to PurpleandGeauld
The Mulkey examples are nonsensical, there aren’t nearly as many competitive women’s teams as there are men’s.

Tomato cans? How old are you?
Posted on 12/24/25 at 6:46 am to The Pirate King
Not true! When you play such lower level teams, your team is not tested and when it comes time to face the much tougher teams, they shrivel up like a prune because they're not prepared for the moment.
Going 11-0 against a bunch of tomato cans and suddenly have to face teams with a pulse, you quickly go from the being the alpha dog in the yard to a yapping chihuahua.
Watch how the men's bb team performs against SEC competition and you will quickly realize level of competition matters.

Chemistry building for team but cannot have too many because then they don’t know what good competition is like.
