The sad part is that LSU Sports dot net sanitized it. They had Hawthorne record it again saying Devrey Henderson. Sad. The original was so much better.

That reference seems to be flying over a lot of heads here. Either too young, bad memories or just not well versed in LSU lore.

The fact that Hawthorne's call mistakenly crediting Hunt got scrubbed from the audio is sad. It is a loveable quirky little piece of LSU football history.

Aren't there videos of a cow mascot prematurely celebrating the Kentucky win in the End Zone.....or am I having acid flashbacks.

no, you are correct and it is another of the inanely beautiful vignettes of that whole game.

I remember being so pissed and in a sour funk, then instant elation. Funny thing is that usually I would have turned the VCR off by that point, but I was so pissed I didn't even think to turn it off, so I watched the sequence prolly a hundred times that afternoon.

Hunt wore #8 and Devery wore #9. Yes they played different sides of the ball and they are different in…umm…appearance, but I’ve always given Hawthorne some grace for that call given the chaos of the moment. It gave us one of the most fun pieces of broadcasting lore in our history

I agree.

We were all so dejected and couldn't believe that we were about to lose to Kentucky. Listen to Hawthorne's tone of voice as he describes LSU lining up in formation. It's quite obvious he was not fully invested in the last play of the game with LSU 75 yards away from the end zone. In the raw moment the surreal crazyness of that play could lead to the easy confusion of #8 and #9.
