You sure about that?

The writer constantly refers to LSU's football team as "we," so already it isn't even journalism.
that's what kept standing out to me. I didn't think it was a great article. I thought it was written by a negatiger who was TRYING to sound neutral, but failing. jmo

quote:That's a hard question to answer. I can say that the articles to which you are casually referring do not represent the population of people I've met around the country and around the world who know about LSU football.
So how is he rated too low when as you say, "virtually everyone outside of Baton Rouge realizes that Les is a top tier coach"?
You'd be surprised how many people in New York City are LSU football fans, if not specifically because they hate Alabama. After all, who beats Alabama more often than LSU in our lifetime?

Ballcaster, answer this one:
quote:
College football is largely a talent game. Recruit the best, win the most. If we're producing the highest volume of NFL talent on a yearly basis, something we love to tout, then why shouldn't we routinely be among the five best teams in college football?

I have no problem with the use of "we".
I disagree.

I disagree.

I understand that offensive statistics, as far as yards gained and whatnot, are very important, but they certainly are not important in the face of the win loss percentage that Les Miles has compiled. The bottom line favors Miles, and to the writer's credit, he does knowledge that, but he conspicuously fails to actually cite the win/loss totals, which we all agree to be without a doubt the most important statistic there is.

More jems:
quote:
If we're going to tout the number of players we place in the NFL, we must also acknowledge our failure to capitalize on such talent.
quote:
When fans complain about 10 win seasons not being "enough", it's not wholly myopic. If it is, then it's a position endorsed by our own head coach, who routinely declares that his team will play "championship level football."

The question assumes that LSU is not regularly one of the top five programs in the country, which, of course, it is.

Big fricking EXACTLY:
quote:
Most think of him as a program manager with no plan that survives by the skin of his teeth and says funny shite like Yogi Bera. They know his strategy and his tendencies. He's as easy to ready and figure out as a high school coach. His game day planning and preparation are highly questionable and his QB's rarely if ever present a threat. They do know he's a nice guy and a stand up citizen, but that really doesn't have anything to do with his coaching prowess.

so if LSU is going to keep losing 10 players to the draft each year, why not oversign?

Meh
quote:
one of the greatest coaches in the past decade
I'd love to see your list
quote:
the most successful coach in history of LSU football
only because of longevity
quote:
and the only coach who is proven to be able to beat Nick Saban with any type of consistency
What's his record against Saban? Like 2-5? That is some unrivaled consistency right there.
PS - I won't count the 2007 saban-miles game because obviously that was saban's first season and he didn't have any of his players yet, and played against all the players he recruited.)

to give you some perspective.
Let me help give you some perspective....
You are completely wrong on this..
Sure, there are some people who have this view. Certainly the media likes to present him in this light because its entertaining.
Most, (not all) the people I know from across the nation (referring to non LSU fans...) view him with a great deal of respect because of his record at LSU and the state of the program overall.
I found this article to be spot on and balanced. The questions are legit without ignoring Coach Miles past accomplishments.

This I don't doubt. I have no doubt that Les Miles isn't about the be fired. He's ours for the foreseeable future. I just wish he'd adjust in a few areas.

We don't need your kind of rational clear headed thinkers here mister! We expect to have every poster use as little thought as possible!

the type of offense that Miles runs is not a type that is going to ever put up flashy numbers...it just isn't. It is a ball control, dominating type of offense, when executed correctly. This style of football, when ran correctly, eventually wears down the opposing defense, and also keeps the ball out of the opposing team's offense.......This is why spread/uptempo type teams haven't typically fared well against LSU....those teams typically have weak defenses, or defenses that get tired easily because their own offense is not on the field as long. LSU attacks that aspect, controls the ball, rests the defense, and after a few stops of the up-tempo team.....while LSU pounds the ball....game is essentially over. Again, we aren't at the level to execute properly right now...but it's coming, and this team will be a much better team even by the end of this year....there will be a lot of crow to be eaten on here....but those same negatigers will have their excuses ready....

This is a complete lie.
We have finished in the top 5 twice in the last 8 years.
Thats is not "regularly".
