Naz Reid in the paint

I'm not knocking Naz because he had a bad game. Every player has those kind of days.
This is something I'm noticing over the last month.
It seems he misses shots down low and in the paint a whole lot. Shots that you see guys make all the time. Bigby Williams and Emmitt make them. I feel more confident with them taking shots down low than Naz.
I know the kid is young, it seems he gets so hurried in putting the shot up.
Plus when he is posting up, I would like to see him make his move immediately instead of waiting to see if the double team is coming.
Just some things I've noticed

We miss a lot under the goal.

As a big man, he should dominate in the paint! Why does he have to try & dribble when he can go up & dunk the ball ???

He has soft hands in the paint. You can guarantee that if he puts it on the ground or waits 2-3 seconds, he will get the ball knocked out of his hands. IMO, he has a lot of his game to work on before he’s NBA ready.

He has great potential but obviously needs another season in college ball...has ZERO touch/feel on the vast majority of his inside shot opportunities ! That being said...the NBA's convoluted draft/salary set up, may preclude him even considering another season with us !

He's young and excited, but he's going to be a great player once he learns the game more! Glad he's a Tiger!

Yea and he was going against some Big Time STUDBreds with Williams and Schofield down there...both NBA prospects too.

Has anyone noticed that he doesn’t seem to have “soft knees”?
He doesn’t bend them sort of, hard for me to describe. Players need to have soft knees to be able to move quickly w/o the ball, to pivot easily, to pump fake quickly.. He’s not flexed ready to go. I think that’s why he doesn’t have the lift or mobility of KBW for example.
Perhaps a reason why he often has to put the ball on the floor and dribble?
This might be a sign of a nagging injury or happens when he’s fatigued.

Best case scenario for LSU is he stays.
Devotes X amount of hours per day on his inside game during the off season.
I’m not sure what’s best for him personally.

I know one thing: a top notch NBA prospect makes that follow up on our winning basket when Naz missed and Bigby cleaned it up. That was an unchallenged putback, and he bricked it. Watch the replay if you doubt me, and he does this A LOT.

He has almost no moves down low. He has guard type skills as a big man. Still has a lot of work to do but damn is he an amazing prospect

yes. Bigby too. I get nervous when they both try to dribble down low. The FL game was particularly bad.

Never seen a man his size not know how to drop-step.

Will be a good pro, but will take time

Bring in Kevin McHale to show him how.
Or Hakeem Olajuwon...

He needs to spend time with Tasmin who was undersized in the paint but could score from there.

What you casual basketball fans fail to realize is that Naz was constantly double teamed on the block.
