Naz made an awful decision. Anybody that leaves school early and doesn’t even get drafted is a bonehead. Hopefully he is able to work his way up thru the d leagues but that’s a hard row to hoe.

Umm...you posted this after he signed a 4 year contract?

Yes, but it was a very low paying deal for the next 4 years. If he had one really good year in college and improved his skills he could have been a low 1st rounder and gotten a much better 1st contract with much more guaranteed money. For being impatient, I figure he cost himself $8-10M over the first 4 years of his pro career. And remember, most of that contract is NOT guaranteed.

Go look at late 1st round contracts

They’re not 8-10 million dollars more.

And he started making that money a year earlier.

That’s the thing, they don’t want the first contract. He wants to start playing in the league so he can get to his second contract. Just like the NFL, that’s where the real money is at, not the rookie deal.

$6.1M over 4 with the 1st year guaranteed isn't bad but the Pels #17 pick got $14M over 4 with a large part of it guaranteed. Naz might not have gotten to #17 but I think he would have had a chance in one more year.
That is a significant difference in cash.
But could Naz have pulled himself up to a 17 pick? I don't know that but if he can't play at that level within the next 1-2 years I would say taht he will have a tough time sticking on an NBA roster.
Naz never intended to stay but 1 year and his attitude toward class proved that. He was basketball focused only during the spring semester.
But 14-6 = a pretty big number even spread over 4 years, especially when you make much of the 14 guaranteed.
