If Crowton would create the offense around what Jefferson is great at and quit putting him and others in situations they do not look comfortable in things should naturally improve.

I thought all that, about Crowton and J Lee.

Being a decent QB as a sophomore is usually considered a good thing, but he does have to build off of that.

As stated the biggest thing will be the OL. I personally thing he will thrive in PA and roll outs which will really only happen if we have a solid run game.

So if we can actually create and offense complementing his abilities I think he will really take off.

Good Lord, i want the OL to be legit just so I can see the ridiculous talent we have in the backfield get loose.

with a good O-line think of the Wildcat with shep, ford, and murphy in the same backfield.

there's no fricking stopping that.

Well there was no way to really build an offense around Jefferson since the OL was garbage last year.

Outside of not making Lee run the option he had everything he needed in an offense. In 2008 Lee had great WRs and a solid run game.

I feel like JL did get fricked over by not having a year as the back up( RP), but you just can't turn the ball over as much as he did. I do like him as a great back up option. I think we have one of the best if not the best depth charts in the conference.

Still had piss poor playcalling, however.

He definitely doesn't deserve the criticism he has received from our fanbase

Unfortunately, this is a given regardless of how well our QB's perform...always has been that way. I am just bothered by the national media piling on him.

Like it or not, they are basing their evaluation on data-in-hand, whereas you are asserting and hoping that he will be better due to some combination of the following: 1) being one year older, 2) having a better oline or 3) getting better coaching.

If you are predicting that one more of these will occur in 2010, then just say so.

Otherwise, what the media is saying has full merit, because JJ did not show any progress during the course of 2009 (and actually got poorer as the year progressed), so the resulting sentiment is that his learning curve is too slow or zero, thus the poor prognostication on his 2010 performance by the "national media". The very poor spring game performance, which he gets no better than a grade of "D" for, made the prediction all the more warranted.

BTW, I do agree with your prediction that he will improve, but other than "homerism" and my emotions speaking because I want the Tigers to do well, and for JJ to do well, there really is no data-in-hand to base that on, it is purely a hunch or an assertion that the 3 above-listed factors, combined with in my view better and more fitting running backs for the offense, will offer enough in his favor to show on the field to the positive.

The question is will it be enough to allow him to make the offense zoom...None of us know that one, but we can all play prognosticator!

Only an idiot would place blame on JJ for the offense last season. He had a shitty OL.

You put Jeferson as the starter for Bama last season and he would have led them to a NC. He is getting piled on because of others' inadequacies.

the offense was a mess with miles and crowton making calls........a lot of controversy and no consistency in play calling. the kids seem to be excited that gonzales will be very involved in the play calling. i believe miles will stay out of it.

Why you gotta bring Danielson in this argument?

Gary will tell you like it is in a completely unbiased view. Gary Danielson is one of the best color guys in all of sports. If only they'd get rid of Verne, the games would be that much more enjoyable when I'm not there...

Objective evidence shows that Jefferson was a better than average QB in 2009.

#38 in the NCAA in Passer Rating
#33 in completion percentage
#67 in yards
#53 in yards per attempt
#46 in TDs
#82 in Int (Reverse order, so it's actually #38)
#8 in Sacks (Reverse order, so it's actually #112)

So, he's in the top 1/3 of all QBs in:

Passer Rating
Completion Pecentage
Interceptions

And he's in the top 1/2 of all QBs in:

Yards per attempt
Touchdowns

He's just under the halfway mark in:

Total yards

And he's near the bottom in:

Sacks

Obviously sacks are a huge problem. But, it's clear on "data-in-hand" that Jefferson is a better than average QB.

Well in his first two starts at QB(in 2008) the offense scored 30 and 38 points. That team actually had a rushing attack and he has become a very accurate QB over the last season.

This what an unbalanced offense looks like. The four biggest football games in 2009 (all LSU loses):

Florida

Passing: 11/17, 96 yards, no TDs

Rushing: 30 carries for 66 yards, no TDs

Alabama

Passing: 14/27, 158 yards, 1 TD

Jefferson - 10/17, 114 yards, 1 TD
Lee - 4/10, 44 yards, 0 TDs

Rushing: 29 carries for 95 yards.

Ole Miss

Passing: 19/37, 250 yards, 2 TDs

Rushing: 27 carries for 40 yards

Penn State

Passing: 18/35, 202 yards, 1 TD

Rushing: 25 carries for 41 yards

frick the national media

LSU will turn some heads this season; and and it starts when UNC gets to experience a good old fashioned LSU / SEC type football beatdown in hot-lanta!

I guess we can all prepare for season of Gary Danielson enlightening us on everything JJ is doing wrong.

If he will just throw the ball and read defenses, he won't have to worry about anyone critiquing him.
