Starting to look forward to the melt when it’s not Napier.
(It’s not Napier).

I get so tired of people saying a prospective coach will/won't work out because some other coach from a similar situation did/didn't work. Throw out any legitimate name and we can come up with someone from a similar situation that did/didn't work out.
I sure hope LSU's evaluation actually looks at the coach a little deeper. What kind of program does he run? Is he a good X&O guy on at least one side of the ball?
Probably my biggest question is: is he self aware enough to recognize his own weaknesses and does he have a plan to mitigate those weaknesses. I don't mind a coach who isn't personally a great recruiter or doesn't have southern ties as long as he has a real plan to cover that weakness. The answer can't just be "I'll hire the best assistants."

the next coach will need to nail the interview process and paint a clear picture about the future of the team. I fully expect Woodward to look for a very detail oriented coach with a "process"
If Napier gets an interview, he will nail the interview and have a plan. He is very detail oriented. I understand the hesitation people have in moving Napier from the sunbelt to LSU but like someone said earlier, he is working with sunbelt talent against sunbelt talent and winning. Jimbo can't win with SEC talent against SEC talent at the moment. It seems as though the rants dream coach doesn't exist.

Can we stop with the Napier talk? He beat Nicholls by 3. Georgia Southern by 8. He has 1 "quality win" which is Iowa State. They got stomped by UT. This isn't our coach of the future.
The way some of you make judgements about head coaches based on single-game results is silly. But this post is just asinine. He’s coaching at a Sun Belt school. Georgia Southern is in their conference. That Iowa State win was the first time ULL beat a ranked team in 25 years.
If you want to argue about whether he’s ready, that’s one thing. But saying you don’t want him because his ULL team lost to Texas is retarded.

Franklin routinely loses to inferior teams, and has for years at penn state

He is a low risk hire.
He does all the little things, and they never beat themselves.
Hard to say if we ever could hit that National Championship level again with him, but the subpar performances every other week will be a thing of the past.
Probably be a very steady hire

I think low risk — but with very real potential to absolutely knock it out of the park... is a pretty good hiring strategy.
