This. I'll be very surprised if membership doesn't continue to drop. I fear that the golden days of the TGBFTL are behind us. Nothing against Kelvin Jones, but the LSU School of Music doesn't give a crap about Tiger Band anymore.

so we can play neck now is what you’re saying???
family in TGBFTL can confirm. Oregon offered and we couldn't match it. Something about the position with the Ducks being more than just "Director of Bands" ...
The interim guy is, in fact, putting 'Neck' back on the table for consideration.

I hope this doesn’t mean that Damon Talley will be directing Tiger Band. While I agree that some of the halftime shows have been more entertaining, they are a shell of their former selves in terms of sound power. I can barely hear them when they play during games.
I don’t think Talley will be taking over as directing TB. From what I understand, his role is staying the same.
That said, although I love what TB has been doing, and looks and sounds great doing it, I don’t think they have the sound power they used to. I haven’t looked at the numbers, but I’m wondering if they’ve scaled the brass down a tad and increased the woodwinds to compensate.

Why is this? It makes no good sense. The GBFTL should be the show piece of the school of music?

Something something... Les Miles had lost control of the band... something something.

I think that's what they've done, and I'm not sure why. I'm no marching band expert, but even I know that the brass instruments are what provide the powerful sound. Tiger Band used to have approximately 30 tubas, but now they have about half as many. You can tell when they march down the hill. The brass section is much smaller and there are more woodwinds. Tiger Band still sounds good but they are not loud.
The colorguard is also much smaller in number.

Rumor at the time was that it was a money grab by the School of Music. F*king Alexander brought in his buddy to be the new dean of the School of Music. He wanted control of the stipend money that went to Tiger Band, specifically the Golden Girls and colorguard. Roy King fought them and got fired. Supposedly, the guy King brought in had done the same thing at the university he came from, and all but destroyed their marching band. Like I said, that was the talk at the time. I'm not sure how much of it is true.
