Do people really believe a coach is going to guarantee a player a certain spot in the lineup even if they can’t produce?

100% Yes. Not saying Jay is, and definitely not saying Curiel demanded it, but.. Yes, without a single doubt, players are getting playing time, positions, and other things guaranteed prior to transferring to schools.

Best hitter and maybe best all around baseball player. Heck of a base runner, too

He never seems to take an at bat for granted.

First off. Curiel is not a transfer. He is a freshman. And certain freshmen receive guarantees. But not starting time and definitely not lead off hitter without ever playing at an LSU collegiate level program

Stanfield doesn’t have an RBI in SEC play since 4/11.

Are the 6/7/8 hitters getting on base? Pretty hard to get a RBI when the bases are empty or there's only a runner on first.

Jones will see a lot more pitches to hit if he is moved down in the lineup and behind a few guys who can get on base consistently. Right now there is zero reason for anyone to throw him something remotely close to hit. Especially if Curiel isn’t getting on base like he was earlier in the season.

And Brown can be great protection for Jones if Brown is hitting 5. Move Frey into the 2 hole.

Again, Curilel and Milam have left the building.....and it is a big bummer.

I have faith these guys will rebound starting next week.

Wow, this is finally an idea that I agree with. Most of the times threads like this are started it's with the most stupid shite one can think of.

However, we've got ourselves a different one here baws and bawettes. This one is actually reasonable and really makes sense. The brief, but straight to the point explanations really set it off.

I think the only argument that could be made is Brown hitting 3rd, but even that would be a limited argument. Well done OP, I completely agree with you.

Mine would be….

Go up there looking for a pitch to hit and jump on it. We seemed to so focused on running up pitch count and getting the starter out that we look at strikes and then when we get behind in the count and the pitcher has the advantage, we strike out guessing or looking.

There is a time to attempt to run up a pitch count, but we’ve seemed to lose our way and aggressiveness.

Just my thoughts!

Jones doesn’t warrant protecting right now. He has been a relatively easy out for the opposition. It is my guess that Curiel gets hot again before Jones does (but hopefully it happens simultaneously in about a week).
