quote:where do think the ranking come from? If you use the silly media polls over a committee, you're nuts. And don't say use the BCS formula, because that's two-third silly media polls.
hold 3 play in games between the highest ranked remaining teams for the other 3 spots. The eight teams are then seeded according to the rankings. frick having a committee.
Why the hate for the committee? They are a group of serious people who take a long time to arrive at a decision, much like the March Madness committee, which is universally respected.

you'll never get each division in each conference to be equal. And the power shifts throughout the years - remember when the SEC East was dominant and the West was down? That applies to other conferences t
That’s not a false statement, but it’s not that relevant to my point — do you really want to potentially see a 7-8 win team, in an 8-team playoff, in a 120-team league?
The point where I agree with you + the logic behind your thinking, if I am not mistaken, is avoiding regular-season rematches ...I am just not sure that auto-bids for CCGs are the best way to do that.
I might need to stew on this for a bit because I do agree that CCGs are a problem right now & either need to be elevated or eliminated.

LOL.
I remember in 2011 ESPN's CFB catch phrase was "Every game counts".
They promptly dropped it after the wrong team won the GOC.
Oooops. A blue blood didn't win. Gotta change those rules again.

The P5 conference championship games provide an automatic bid.
Not going to read the rest, as this should not be a qualifier based on the current conference schedules.
Unless all teams in a conference play each other, conf champ games should not be a deciding factor when selecting playoff teams.

Rarely do we even have 3 deserving teams.

These threads are useless and a bunch of what if’s. Whatever you decide it should be makes ZERO difference. You don’t get to decide.

Yea I’m sure we’d all feel that way when 11-1 LSU gets left out for a 7-5 Pitt. If you’re gonna do 6 put in the 6 best teams. Not automatic bids for winning a conference.

Should be six, however it should be the six best teams. Top two conference champs get a bye. Next two conference champs get to host in the first round. If you don’t win your conference, you have to go on the road. It puts a team at a huge disadvantage if they don’t win their conference, but it gives them a route to the championship to prove that they might still be the best team.

At the end of the season and the conference championship games, pick the four most deserving teams. If any of these teams have already played, the team that lost is then eliminated and the fifth best team is moved up. This is done so that there is no possibility of a rematch between teams that have already had their shot at one another. Reward the winner of that game and punish the loser of that game. If these teams split because they ended up in their conference championship game then reward the one who won the conference championship. This will, in essence make several regular season games, playoff games. It will make these match ups mean more during the regular season and it will allow for more teams having a shot at making it into the playoffs. It is a way to sort of expand the current setup without actually increasing the number of teams at the end of the season.

How about dividing the P5 and the G5 into 8 conferences a piece. The the winners of their respective conference are in the 8 team playoff and whoever wins at the end is the P5 national champions and whoever wins the G5 8 team playoff at the end is the G5 national champions.

Your “make every game count” proposal turns non-conference game into a meaningless preseason.
