You don't see any similarity there?

Damn, looking at the Diesel run, I had forgotten what a beast that guy was. What a waste of God-given talent.

I truly believe the guy could have been a legitimate Heisman contender.

He looks bigger than James did and seems more powerful. And will end up being a better back.

Went to Crowley high and my buddy played MLB. Cecil came of the LOS my buddy got low, the Diesel put a knee in his chest and stepped on his facemask and tripped. He said afterward "did you see me tackle Cecil?" He knew he got destroyed and was happy he was credited with a tackle on that beast

Gary James loved to run out of bounds....not as talented as Hill... Hill reminds me of Faulk more than James.

The thing I remember about James is if he couldn't get outside on runs he wasn't effective...he never seemed to make that cut up the field he would just race to the edge and hope he could turn the corner, if he couldn't, he would step out of bounds. I much preferred when we ran Hillard...now James was great on screens..
Overall, I think Hill has the potential to be special...and better than James...

Garry James didn't really come to mind. He looks like a slightly bigger version of Charlie Alexander to me. Charlie reportedly ran a sub 4.4 40 @ 215 lbs., which was good size for a back in the 70s.

If Jeremy Hill has anywhere near that kind of speed, he has a chance to be special.

Hill doesn't run like James at all

I don't think that's accurate either.

To me, the most similar player to James to come through LSU in the last decade or so, got moved to WR- and that was Devery Henderson. They basically have the same game skills; sweep and fly routes. Neither really ducked contact, or ducked anything else; just sprinted and if they got the angle they were gone. Henderson at WR still does that.

Hill looks a lot more like the footage we saw of Charles Alexander; I wouldn't put him near Cecil Collins just yet. That's not an insult to Hill, just that Collins was insane for the time he was here. Imagine Spencer Ware, running against a junior high team. Hill hasn't brought that level of violence to his game yet.

Your Dad is way off...

I played against Garry in HS and came to school with him up here. Unstoppable in HS and was a big time recruit that came here in maybe the best RB class ever with Karl Bernard, Dalton Hilliard and Gil Fenerty, ALL who played in the NFL. He was super fast but had no shiftiness, had to virtually stop to cut up field, kinda like Ford. Garry was hard to handle in LSU's split back, pro style offense, especially as a receiver.
Hill is smoother and does have some Cecil like qualities, but don't want to say he's that good yet. I've never seen a back explode like Collins could.

Not as fast as Garry.

That's no knock on Hill's speed, though. If you had ever seen Garry turn the corner headed for the pylon, you'd get what I mean.

Now that I see it he does resemble Cecil a bit in the cuts and size. I think wr need to see him start the game though too get a good enough feel.

Not on the field...but in the locker room right?

I don't think James ever committed a sex offense though.

I LOVED IT!!!

I hate the mustard yellow of today! I loved the way the field was painted back then.

Today it looks like a Middle school girl painted it

Jeremy Hill is much bigger than James was. I think people may mistakenly remember James as a big back because he was taller and slightly larger than Hilliard. However, I thought Hilliard was about 5'8" 180 in college. James had a lot of speed and just enough power to be considered a true, all-purpose back (rather than just a speed back). I see Hill as a totally different type of back. He has plenty of size and power and just enough speed and moves to be considered and NFL-style, 3 down back.
